As I step my feet on the doorsteps of my house which has been a storehouse of all the happy moments of my life including the worst nightmares I had been through, I ring the doorbell carrying my two suitcases. As the door opened, I can see the person whom I have loved and devoted the most. He stood there in awe seeing me, not able to speak anything.
I quickly put my suitcases down and gave him a tight hug and slowly whispered in his ears, "Surprise, daddy!"
He kissed me on my forehead and said, "No wonder my today's horoscope said that I would meet someone special and here my little princess has arrived, making my day special."
This was my same old daddy, nothing has changed in him since these 12 years when I was in Delhi pursuing my doctorate degree. His looks and even his habit of checking the horoscope hasn't changed a bit. Even though, he was in his 50s, he still pertained this charisma which was the reason, I was so close to him.
As I was busy in my train of thoughts, I was simply smiling at my daddy who was busy giving me details about today's horoscope and how wonderful astrology actually is, until we were suddenly snapped from our actions by my mother who stood in front of us and complained,"Here comes our daddy's little princess who I think must have forgotten that there are even other human beings living in this house with her daddy."
I quickly went and hugged my mother. My mother was another member among those people who have always been special to me. She is a lady with an amazing will power, she may look vulnerable but deep inside, she had this strength which had always helped her survive through difficult times.
I had always been a daddy's girl and over the years, we had created a strong relation. My mother would sometimes get jealous seeing us together but I knew she never meant it that way but deep down she had always admired our relation.
After that, we settled on the sofa and my fear of being questioned about my surprise arrival came into its true colours when my mother asked me, "You must have atleast informed us about your arrival, we would have come to receive you. Why did you not inform us, you don't know what all has been happening in this city, it is no longer safer. You know what happened last week....."
Before she would start describing about the recent crimes which had taken place in Mumbai, I assured her saying, "Amma, now I am a big girl, I had been staying alone in Delhi for 12 long years. I know how to take care of myself."
After hearing this, I could see my mother with tears filled in her eyes as she said, "Yes, we know that you are a big girl now and you no longer need us to take care of you." Seeing her cry, I hugged her and said, "Amma, it was just a small surprise, I just wanted to see your faces when you would suddenly find me on the doorsteps of our house inspite of me telling you that I would be arriving after 2 days, it was just a small surprise so relax."
After saying this, I eyed my father to share some of his words of assurance to which he nodded and said, "Yes, she just wanted to surprise us, so be happy and proud that our daughter could manage to come on her own."
My mother smiled, wiping her tears off, she said, "You both father-daughter are always in a team and are always ready for each other's rescue, hope your relation stays intact like this forever. By the way Avni, you haven't forgotten this trick of calling me - 'amma' whenever I get angry on you."
We all laughed at it and I commented, "How can I forget the only two weapons which work against your anger, one is by calling you 'amma' and second is daddy.
We all laughed and talked until my mother asked us whether we were hungry. So I decided to cook something as it has been ages since I have cooked anything.
When I was in the kitchen cooking our meal, I could hear mummy and daddy talk about my brother's company which he has recently joined and how he was being handsomely paid as his company is one of the top business firms in the world.
When I was busy kneading the dough, suddenly my mother shouted my name, "Avni! Come here fast. See what's on the television."
I rushed towards the hall where my mummy and daddy were sitting, trying to figure out what was being telecasted that my mom was so excited about.
When I reached, I could see on the television, there was an interview going on, no he wasn't an actor for sure, because the show always had successful entrepreneurs being interviewed, usually it always had people at their 50s or 60s or most of them were foreigners but this person who was being interviewed was a young Indian entrepreneur.
I thought for a while who this person is but I couldn't recognise because it was the first time I was seeing him.
"Mummy, who is this person? Looks like an Indian!", I asked my mother.
"Rajveer Agnihotri is his name, he is the CEO of the multi-billionaire business firm - Ardeur Corp."
