Luffy stood still, his hands pulled down his hat and covered his face as he looked down on the two corpses laying in front of him. Many thoughts flooded his mind. Haku was badly wounded when Luffy hit him, but if he had stayed still, he could have prevented further injuries from his already wounded chest. He saw Zabuza as his family, but to Luffy there was no distinction from a family or a friend. Everyone close to him were important, but is there a difference? Is Naruto a family or friend? or Sasuke? or Kakashi? He could only push these thoughts away as he saw many men approaching the bridge from afar.
Many bandit looking men flooded the bridge with spears and swords, looking ready to slaughter on command. The team who just finished an exhausting ordeal looked over at the mob. From the center, came a bald man with glasses. He looked to be the leader of the gang.
"Geto!" Tazuna spat with disgust as the team turned to him
The mob leader geto? This is gonna be rough. Kakashi thought as he looked at the men who seemed to be raring to go at them.
"Tch! I knew hiring this bastard and this damn kid was a waste of money! This brat broke my arm too. Look at the pitiful state he is in now!" He laughed like a maniac as Luffy and Naruto tightened.
"Oi! Dont make fun of him you damn bastard!" Naruto shouted in rage
"You are the one with a damaged brain, Haku is worth more than a thousand of you!" Luffy joined in and the two advanced towards the group.
Geto raised his hand and the two stopped. A smirk emerged from his mouth as he brought something towards the front. The team gasped and Tazuna choked with horror
"I-Inari!" Tazuna cried out as a beat down Inari was dragged to the front.
"You coward!" Luffy shouted and Tazuna laughed again. The team gritted their teeth as they saw Inari being held hostage.
"Dont worry, shinobi san!" Inari said and the team looked at him
"I may be caught, but I let mom escape. Shinobi san! I gave my all to save my mom! I won Shinobi SAN!" He declared proudly as Tazuna, Luffy and Naruto started to shed tears
"You did well Inari! You are amazing!" Luffy said between tears
Geto gritted his teeth in frustration. He had planned to kill the kid and rape the woman, but this little brat let her escape and now was smiling proud of it.
"SHUT UP! Surrender now and give me Tazuna and we may spare your lives." Geto said and the men roared
Naruto was shaking in anger, but he cant do anything as long as they have Inari. Naruto turned to Kakashi in desperation
"Kakashi sensei! Do something, they are gonna kill Inari!" Naruto said to Kakashi. But somehow Kakashi looked relaxed.
"Dont worry Naruto, backup is here." He said and Naruto and Luffy looked in confusion at Kakashi.
Geto who was now out of patience cried out to kill Inari. The men roared as the man holding Inari took out his blade and pointed it to Inari's throat. Naruto and Luffy rushed toward him even when they knew it was too late.
"INARI!" They shouted in desperation.
But just as the man was about to stab Inari, his entire body froze. He began to convulse as he drooled foam. His blade dropped from his hand as he lost control of his body and fell to the ground. The men around him scurried away as he fell to the ground in a near death looking state. Inari took this opportunity to run towards Naruto. He slipped from the man's grip and started to run. Geto still in a state of shock ordered his men to catch the kid. Several men sprang forward to catch him.
From under the bridge there came a huge drill like cloud that shredded the chasing men into pieces. The others stepped back as they were unable to process what had just happened. Several other men came from the side to stab Inari but were pushed away by a rotating spherical cloud that appeared out of nowhere. When the spherical cloud stopped, a girl with purple hair and pale eyes appeared from within. She skillfully fought all the men coming for Inari. But suddenly, a man who was injured by the initial drill like attack rose up to slash Hinata in the back. Though her Byakugan saw him, she wasn't fast enough to block it. She saw the blade coming towards her as she tried to block it, but it would already be too late. In a flash, the man flew away from the bridge. Naruto who appeared behind Hinata stood in a fighting stance.
"Na-Naruto Kun!" She blushed
"OI! Concentrate!" Naruto said and she composed herself
'That's right! I have to focus. Naruto and I are fighting side by side, side by side... side by ... side?' She Blushed harder. The men tried to slash Hinata but the drill attack came again, shredding many more into pieces. Hinata snapped out of her daze and continued to fight off the men.
The goons who knew they were gonna loose this fight, tried to retreat. But they gasped in horror when they saw the sight behind them. The goons who stood in the backline were now mere bones. From their orifices, crawled out many million bugs and started attacking the men, eating them from the inside. Geto, horrified at the sight, tried to run. But stopped dead in his tracks when by his side, two deep red eyes stared into his soul. This was the last thing he remembered when he fell convulsing to the ground.
TEN MINUTES LATER
The bridge was now dyed red with blood. Team 8 and Team 7 stood among the pile of corpses when the village people led by Tsunami came to the group's rescue. Itachi and Kakashi were conversing about the course of action. Naruto and Hinata were helping Sasuke, Kiba was cleaning the blood off his and Akamaru's claws, Shino was recalling his bugs and Luffy covered the corpses of Zabuza and Haku. Tsunami ran past the corpses when she saw Inari in Tazuna's hands. Inari also ran toward and the two hugged each other in a warm embrace, all the while Tsunami cried about how proud his dad would be.
SEVERAL DAYS LATER:
Zabuza and Haku were buried in adjoining graves. The bridge was built under the protection of team 7. Team 8 had returned to Konoha after the battle on the bridge. In honor of Team 7, the bridge was named the great senbun bridge.
Team seven was walking home, laughing and teasing each other all the way. It was a successful mission completion after all. They will get huge bonuses when they will reach Konoha. Sasuke was still in an emo state after being AFK for almost two thirds of the battle. But little did they knew, there will be a OVA next chapter
