Chapter 6: A New Life
Andrew and Jane could not believe that Amelia was Dr. Griffin's granddaughter. Dr. Griffin and Amelia appear to be of similar age.
"Do you know David Madison?" Andrew asks.
"Yes, he attends my group meetings in San Francisco. I think you should consider relocating. I currently reside in San Francisco now. If you and your dad move to San Francisco I can assist both of you in finding employment," Dr. Griffin offered.
"Let me discuss the possibility of moving with my dad. Do you know where David Madison lived?" Andrew asks.
"Yes, I do," Dr. Griffin replied, providing David's address.
Later, Andrew and Jane took the first flight to San Francisco. Andrew rented a car and drove to David's house. David lived in a small house. The house was beautiful. David was already outside doing yard work when he saw Andrew and Jane approaching. David walked towards them as soon as he saw them getting out of the car.
"You must be Andrew Stewart. Victor informed me of your arrival, but I was unaware of the exact time. Come on in," David invited Andrew and Jane into his house.
David gave them some coffee and some cookies. Andrew told David what happened to his dad.
"The same thing happened to me, but I wasn't driving." I was abducted during the Vietnam War," David replied.
"Do you remember what happened to you?" Andrew asks.
"The only thing I remember is that the enemy was attacking me and my fellow soldiers." When I was fleeing from the enemy, I caught sight of a bright light, and that's the last thing I recall," David explained.
"Dr. Griffin thinks my dad should move somewhere else because of the FBI's investigation into the storm my dad fell out of," Andrew questions.
"I agree with Victor. Your dad should move somewhere else," David suggests.
"My dad does not want to change his name or hide," Andrew replied.
"I understand that, but what I am suggesting is that your dad should start a new life somewhere else where he can feel safe. That is exactly what I did when I was in a similar situation. Your dad can always come back to Seattle once things calm down with the FBI," David encourages Andrew.
"I appreciate your concern, David. I will definitely talk to my dad about this," Andrew replied.
Andrew and Jane quickly took the first plane back to Seattle. Later, Andrew went to see his dad at the hospital.
Alan was engrossed in the TV when Andrew walked into his room.
"Hey, dad, how's it going?" Andrew asked.
"I'm doing well, thanks. How about you?" Alan replied.
"I'm fine. Dad, I talked to Dr. Griffin and David Madison. They disappeared just like you did, and when they came back, they had no memory of what happened to them. They said they saw a bright light before they disappeared. They moved somewhere else to start a new life. They didn't even change their name. Dad, I think we should move somewhere else. Dr. Griffin said he could help us get a job in San Francisco. He'll even help Uncle Martin find work. You don't want to risk running into Mom," Andrew suggested.
"I completely understand where you're coming from," Alan agrees wholeheartedly. "It's definitely time for a change of scenery."
Alan and Martin's parents had already made the decision to move to San Francisco, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity for the whole family to start fresh. However, when Andrew told his mom about his plans to move to San Francisco too, she didn't take it well. Stacy, on the other hand, simply wanted her son to be happy and didn't say anything. Andrew finally came around and agreed to call his mom to talk things out. Meanwhile, Jane was also in the process of moving to San Francisco and had actually already started house hunting with Andrew. Alan, on the other hand, had a different idea for his future. He had been thinking about becoming a doctor and was considering pursuing that path in San Francisco.
