tw// mentions of self harm if you squint real close

"Oh- fucking shitballs" I cursed rubbing my nose in pain. It hadn't broken, and I didn't feel any blood thank fuck, but it hurt like a bitch.
"Avery?" I gingerly removed my hand from my face looking up to see Harry, watching me with concern. "Are you okay?"
"Potter?" a sweet sharp voice called from inside the room. "Is something, the matter?"
A vein popped up from Harry's neck as he clenched his fists, wincing slightly. I glanced down to his left fist, realization slowly dawning as my gaze met the bright, jagged lines of red on the back of his hand.
Organised red lines. Not the accidental paper cut.
"Nothing, Professor." Harry said, coldly. "Just ran into Avery."
"Well tell him to come in." The voice beckoned.
"Uhm-" I went around the door, walking into what seemed like the most disgusting room decor Merlin has seen. The room was coated in pink paint porcelain plates, each with a mewing cat, angrily glaring. None of their stern expressions matched that of the pink robed witch sitting at her ugly wooden desk. "I didn't mean to intrude-"
"What were you doing outside my office at this hour, Mr. Avery?" Professor Umbridge asked, her face anything but kind."
"Uhm, I had a few questions..." I said, scrambling for a quick lie, "I had a few questions about the Ministry, y'know your role and all, but given the hour, and uhm-" I sucked at my teeth, glancing back at Harry who was still standing by the doorway, "-circumstance I think i should just do it tomorrow."
"No need, it's perfectly alright." She said, her guard slowly dropped, a sick smile returning to her face. "I'm perfectly capable of giving you some insight, right now."
"I was intending an erm- longer discussion, about careers, so to speak." I muttered, mentally kicking myself for putting me down this rabbit hole.
Her smile seemed to widen. "Of course, it's lovely to see that your ambitions early. Come see me at 4PM sharp tomorrow." I nodded resignedly, trying not to vomit on her carpet then and there.
"Lovely, see you then." Without further ado, I spun on my heel and practically skipped out of that stupid office, slamming the door on my way out, staring dead at Harry.
"Since when were you interested in the Ministry?" He scoffed.
"Oh Potter, you're so silly." I sighed, reaching up and ruffling his hair. "That was an obvious lie, I don't give a damn about careers, I needed that bitch off my back is all."
"Then what were you doing, Avery?" He asked suspiciously, running his hands through his hair to fix it. His left sleeve rode up just barely enough to see deep set words slashed into his skin.
I snatched his wrist, dragging him closer to me and pulling up the sleeve to examine.
"I must not tell lies."I murmured slowly. He glared at me, eyes filled with hurt, like I had just committed the highest form of betrayal, before snatching his hand away from his grasp.
"Fuck off." He said, storming away down the corridor.
"Harry- Harry fucking wait-" I jogged slowly after him, trying to keep up with his pace.
"I don't need your pity." He shouted, not even bothering to look back.
"Harry motherfucking Potter-" I wrapped my fingers around his right wrist, roughly pushing him up against the corridor wall. He blinked in shock before pushing at me angrily, but by some Herculean effort I held him there.
