Kieran was panting superficially as he continued into the woods.
Kipp was not far behind. He followed Kieran by the heels. "I told you to stay down!" Kipp growled at Kieran's back. It seemed like he was still shaking off the merge because some of him still believed he was bonded with Russell and had his enhanced strength. He pounced for Kieran and landed on him, and they tumbled into the forest.
"Get off me, you little brat!" Kieran snarled as they stopped rolling. Kipp was on top of him, nipping at him several times. What was worse was Kieran couldn't even shift his way out of this because he was exhausted from being merged for so long. "Stop biting me!"
"No!" Kipp continued. His little pecks were comparable to those of a pre-evolution house cat, but he was sure it was still frustrating being nipped at continuously.
Kieran pushed him off and then came to his feet, "You're all weak! Barely worthy of the name Omeocoon. You know what? You aren't worthy at all! Next time, I'll make sure to incinerate everyone!" Just as he was about to turn to run off again, the forest's serenity was replaced by the noise of powerful engines and floodlights that made him squint as he looked up toward the skies to see what was interrupting his speech.
Kipp's tail squirmed...he knew those engines! The Falcon.
She appeared over his head and came in for a low sweep. It fired its weapons immediately. Red streaks of light came from the nose of the craft. They seemed to have no target, which was dangerous for both Kipp and Kieran. They both immediately jumped for cover. The ship came around once again and attacked.
"Kipp!" Russell arrived just as the hellfire began. Like someone who hadn't prepared for rain, he covered his head as dirt and other debris showered the area.
Kieran wasn't frozen in terror, but he was irritated. He was pinned behind this tree. He obviously couldn't get away. A spaceship with weapons was a lot more dangerous than some bombs on a bridge, especially when whoever was flying it couldn't seem to aim to save their lives. Could this be it?
The ship was more focused on Kieran now that he was separated from Kipp. It attacked, nearly blew Kieran to smithereens, and lit the nearby woods with a mild ember. Kieran vanished after the smog cleared.
The ship landed nearby, and like in Russell's village, the entire forest was lit up with interior lighting as the ramp extended from the hull. Three beings—D1, Maxion, and Cam—came down it. Looks like that distress beacon worked just fine.
"Did I get him?" Maxion asked, approaching Russell, smiling brightly.
"No! But you got everything else!" Russell snarled as he frantically looked around for Kipp. "Kipp?" He cupped his hands around his mouth and called for him repeatedly.
"We must arrest the evil Tommy immediately," D1 stated; she was ready to do it; a pair of haphazardly constructed anti-shifting cuffs were in her graspers. She moved toward his last known location, already prepared to end this. She motorized to the thick bushing of the forest where Kieran had taken cover.
Kiran was bruised, and his 'fur' was a mess. Fatigue was one of his companions now.
D1 slapped the cuffs on his wrists. "Assist me!" D1 called out to the boys. She might've had the cuffs, but she wasn't strong enough to pull his frail body out of the bushing.
Maxion broke off from Russell's scornful remarks and assisted D1 in exhuming Kieran from the forest. Coyly shrugging his ex's anger off.
"Idiot!" Russell called out as Maxion ran off...Was his Kipp gone forever? Just when he thought all hope was lost...Something poked its head out of a log not far from where Kieran was hiding. Russell gasped, recognizing it immediately. "Kipp!" The only grey thing in a forest full of green.
"Russell?" Kipp perked up. "You made it!" He said happily as he contorted his body, escaped the log, and quickly ran to Russell and Cam with open arms. He was bruised and scratched, but they all were—nothing that some TLC couldn't fix.
Cam watched, his body still shaking with exhilaration. He felt like he could punch a brick wall without breaking a sweat! But...medical was his expertise, not brute force. This is why he began examining Kipp for any ailments(outside of the ones he'd managed to gain while fighting as a merge with Russell) as soon as he arrived.
"More to the left," D1 commanded Maxion as he dragged Kieran out. She closely followed him to ensure he didn't damage the criminal that started all this. He still needed to face the music. She'd prefer he'd be in one piece...if Maxion could manage it.
Maxion sighed. "Look, either you could drag him out, or you can quit ordering me around. You can't have both...Kyr, this guy weighs a ton." Maxion continued grunting with every pull.
"It has been an honor assisting you in your journey. I look forward to helping you rebuild the planet over the next decades." D1 said to Maxion as he'd almost arrived at the ship's boarding ramp.
"Yeah, decades...that sounds just about right." Maxion chuckled, maintaining his sharp tooth grin despite being the one dragging Kieran to eternal damnation...he was just glad it was finally over.
