??? POV
The girl was lying down on the floor of the van gushing dark red liquid out from her wounds. I reached for a pile of towels and began to try and stop the overwhelming flow of life force. An occasional grunt could be heard each time I would grab a new towel and apply pressure to a wound. I will not let this girl die in my arms.
The time it took to get back to the school grounds was far too long compared to getting to the scene. Sometimes it's like time slows down for moments like these when you really need to be somewhere else. Not before long, the van pulled into HQ's garage and I was hopping out the doors and heading straight to the elevator. Thomas was waiting right by the doors, ready for orders.
"Thomas, I need you to page Belmont and tell her to go to the infirmary and bring the best doctor we have in. We don't have much time." Urgency rode my voice like a soldier going into combat on horseback. The elevator ride was just long enough to leave me with my thoughts for a minute. The island has been dealing with these things for only a few months now, but they've never gone this far attacking a human before. Those beasts normally go out of their way to avoid any human interaction, not seek it out.
I glanced down at the light body in my arms. "I'm sorry you had to be the unlucky one..." Of course I didn't get anything back. If I did it would probably be a snarky remark. I still had her hat gripped in one of my hands. She probably tries to hide those ears of hers.
The elevator doors opened to the medical bay after a short but anxious wait. Speed walking through the lobby and down the corridor I was met with the clicking heels of the Headmistress of this illustrious academy. Her forest green eyes remained calm and steady despite her long dark brown hair being a frazzled mess. "Ma'am—"
"I don't have time for apologies right now. Tell me what happened to my student while we go to room 1." Concern and anger were both evident in her voice even though her face didn't let anything slip by. I nervously peered ahead as I reported all I knew on the situation. The Headmistress sighed deeply once we got to the room and I placed the student on the table. "Commander, go in the cabinet above the sink and fetch me the white vile and the gauze next to it." It took me a short time to realize she was talking to me, not the doctor that was already in the room. I grabbed what she asked for and handed it to her as they were both examining the girl.
The doctor had stitched up and cleaned the major wounds on her abdomen to stop the bleeding to the best of her abilities. The Headmistress had gotten to work with the vile. Uncorking the bottle, she poured the insides on the girl's head, hands, and feet before she chanted, "Ad quam vos ingredimini!" I had to shield my eyes from the white glow that emitted from the liquid. Screams and grunts could be heard from the girl on the table.
"What's going on? Stop this! She's in pain!" I couldn't even make my way towards the table, let alone get her to stop this madness.
"Something isn't right. Her body is rejecting the healing." The Headmistress gasped and observed the black tribal markings that could be seen through the girl's ripped socks on her thigh. "A curse?" Her brow furrowed in concentration as she held both palms out toward the girl and began another longer chant, hair whipped about her and her eyes were illuminated as she proceeded. The wind was so loud I couldn't hear a word she was saying. The previous calm white glow from the liquid began to turn a near black blue like the night sky. The light was no longer calm, but jagged like lightning bolts made of darkness as they jumped around the room.
