Prologue

Stella POV

Finally, I'm free from this hell hole that I'm supposed to call a home! Stella Greyland is now officially headed away from disgusting California and off to peaceful Florida. Well, less people who know who I am.

In my life, things go one of two ways: a person will either hate me or love me and there is no in between. This is exactly how it is in California for me. With my supposed parental figures being on either the city council or in the mayor's office, I live with a very well-known family... minus myself. They don't include me in anything really; just enough not to be legally punished. But then again, who wants to fight against someone with political and economic power?

I'm not much of a looker in my opinion, just a bit...flashy, that's the word. After all my looks is what started my so called family's abuse of me. I've been told that I was perfectly fine and normal in the family up until my fifth birthday. That's when they noticed the...changes. My hair started to diverge from the hereditary light brown into a much more interesting very pale lavender. My eyes didn't change too much I think, the previous forest green just shrunk into specks and was swallowed by a vivid, almost electric, blue.

Home was usually survivable; meaning I never sustained anything that would allow me to go to the hospital. But that changed after school one day all due to the dearest sister of mine. Yep, I did have a sister that was one year older than me, but since she isn't exactly the sharpest tool in the tool shed she is in my grade due to flunking her junior year. I exceeded my sister in everything but being a snobby stuck-up bitch and an attention seeker. And you know what she did to me every day of my life? She would treat me like I was dirt and eventually I began to treat her the same way when I could.

I was also stealing her popularity slowly but surely. Then, one day at lunch she took her little jealousy problem and decided to act upon me. The female dog spread rumors about me through the whole school and then slapped me, in the face, in front of the entire school, not once but twice. And if anyone knew me they would know not to hit me unless they want pain.

As a result of the failed attempt to control my anger, I back-handed her once hard across the face. But of course, all these actions did was cultivate my fan club and kick hers where it hurts most. Though when I got home I was not prepared for what I was going to get. I thought it was just going to be the usual slap in the face and the screaming at along with maybe some punches. But no, what was going to happen was far worse than before.

When I walked through the front door, I was greeted by my supposed mother yelling at me.

"Who do you think you are to be slapping my precious daughter in the face in front of the entire school!?" And with that time sped up. Father punched me in the stomach first making me lose my breath. Then mother walked over to a crouching me again but with a small knife and slid it across my side and hip. I tried to scream out in pain but couldn't due to the fact that I had previously taken a breathless blow to the gut. My vision and hearing slowly began to fade but I could barley make out the sounds of my sister and mother cackling while saying that's one less problem to deal with and the sound of clanking chains. The blood loss ebbed away at my conscious until there was nothing left.

Well isn't this just lovely.
