Josie's PoV

My father assigned us a new mission: to locate another supernaturals in this world.

There have been numerous reports of missing people, many of whom possess abilities that could aid us in protecting ordinary citizens. In addition to this, our secondary objective was to apprehend the threat—an adversary so powerful that they posed a significant danger.

And it was this mission that we failed.

I understand that everyone makes mistakes from time to time.

Nobody is perfect.

These simple truths apply to us, our team—Super Squad. My girlfriend, Hope, couldn't shake off the weight of her failure. She had underestimated our new enemy.

She blamed herself for allowing that person to escape.

Hope and I were sent to handle the situation. My own decision played a significant role in Hope's misstep during the mission.

I made a choice that I didn't realize would impact our operation.

Our mistake cost the rest of the squad valuable time and allowed the enemy to escape. Amid the chaos, several bystanders were injured or went missing, and there was considerable property damage.

Hope and I were responsible for leading the squad, but we failed.

So, we argued.

The rest of Super Squad is currently holed up in a remote hotel.

We chose to stay here to strategize our next move.

During a planning session in the living room, everyone in our squad caught at least part of our heated argument, which escalated into a shouting match.

We both agreed it would be best to avoid each other for a while.

This was the most serious argument we'd had since we started dating, and now we were keeping our distance from each other.

Even though I had no appetite, I knew I needed energy for our mission. I was quietly eating breakfast when someone entered the dining room.

"Hey," I glanced at the person who greeted me—a tall, cute blonde with beautiful blue eyes that reminded me of Hope.

Enid Sinclair. A werewolf from Nevermore.

"How are you?" I asked, smiling genuinely at her as she sat beside me at the dining table.

"I'm fine," Enid replied, smiling widely as she took a bite of her sandwich. "How about you?"

"I'm good," I lied, forcing a smile as I struggled to eat the salad.

We ate breakfast in silence, and I noticed Enid glancing at me from the corner of my eye, as if wanting to say something.

"It's okay," I stopped eating and smiled softly at her. "You can tell me, if you want." Enid nodded and sighed.

"I'm really sorry about what happened last night," Enid began, giving me an apologetic smile. "I know it was my fault that you and your girlfriend fought."

Oh no, why would she say that?

"Hey," I reached out and gently squeezed her hand to reassure her that she hadn't done anything wrong. "It's not your fault we argued." I gave her an encouraging smile, and Enid nodded happily before hugging me. "It was my decision to save you."
