Rain

He wasn't even fully aware of what had happened before Teddy entered the clearing.
Why was. W-why was Jacob following me? But I-
Josh slowly looked down at his arms. Violet colored electricity was still rapidly pulsing through his veins. He tried to catch a glimpse of his brothers body but for some reason Jacob kept morphing into the wolf. Suddenly it hit him. He knew something was off about these woods, about the air that they were breathing in.
I- I must have been hallucinating.

At that moment a bewildered Nathan stepped into the clearing with Derek limping along behind him. His eyes widened in horror when he saw Jacob lying limp on the ground and Josh, a still form of grief. "What have you done.."

++

Josh jerked his head up. "I- I didn't mean too.."
A angry and somewhat homicidal Nathan rushed at Josh, clamping his hands on his shoulders. "What have you done to your brother!!"
Josh shoved Nathan away. "I didn't do anything!!!"
Crack!
Pieces of shredded and splintered wood flew out in all directions when a bolt of electricity tore into a tree only inches from Nathan's face. For a solid five seconds, which seemed to them like forever, Josh stood there looking into Nathan's eyes who stared back at him as if he was a monster.
The pain that tore into Josh was just to much to handle, he didn't even know if his brother was alive yet he couldn't stand it any longer. He ran. He ran away from his problems, his torments, his fears. As if on the cue the sky started to let loose a cascade of rain which fell to the earth in heavy draughts. His heart pumped relentlessly and the adrenaline in his body was at an all time high.

"Jacob...... Jaacob.." He could hear someone calling his name. The voice though, whoever's it was, was warped and sounded like it was travelling through five tons of water. His body felt numb and he couldn't feel a single thing.
He wanted to say he was sorry, sorry that he couldn't even mutter the words goodbye. Suddenly he felt like his body was being propelled through the air and he was slowly falling towards the earth. His mind shut down.

"Jacob. Jacob!" Nathan vigorously shook Jacob's torso in hope he would open his eyes. "Come on buddie, say something."
Suddenly Jacob's body came to a rest, ending the relentless shaking which had racked him just moments ago.
Nathan froze.
He stole a glance at Derek who just looked on with a heavy heart. Nathan ripped out the knife from his side and held it under Jacob's nostrils. The fog on the silver blade sent a rush of relief through him. "He's still breathing."
"Yeeah.. but not very well.."
Nathan shook his head in aggravation. "What the heck did Josh do!"
"Well, it seems we're not the only ones with powers now." Suddenly it dawned on Nathan what had just occurred. "Oh.. he-"
"....... Dang it!!!" Nathan in a fit of anger, clenched his hand into a tight fist and slammed it into the ground, causing a nearby tree, to twist in a gruesome and violent manner and eventually snap in two. As the giant tree fell to the ground with no "natural" reason why, Nathan finally noticed Teddy standing off to the side.
There was only one word to describe Nathan's face in that moment.
Crap.

Teddy about jumped out of his skin when the seemingly healthy and sturdy looking tree a few feet from him, was suddenly crushed and mutilated by an invisible force. He didn't understand what they were talking about at first, but as the giant tree lay at his feet, an odd familiarity seeped into his bones. For some reason this weird sense of power was something he normally felt around Jacob when he was spouting off the digits of pi.
For a second his stared at the tree in wonder, but then he locked eyes with Nathan. The poor guy looked frightened, just like Jacob had when he walked in on him snooping around his room. The memory seemed like forever ago.
The next thing he noticed was Derek. First off, he looked bad, but he seemed just as shocked with Nathan's violent outburst and It's results as he was, though the man had been speaking of powers just moments ago.
And then he looked at Jacob, a lump formed in his throat as he studied the intense bruises that covered his chest and the charred spot in his shirt where he had apparently been struck by lightning.
"Is he- is he ok?"
Slowly Nathan's shoulders relaxed as he realized Teddy wasn't going to freak out. "I don't know."
For a few agonizing seconds no one spoke.
"Yanno," Teddy bent towards the ground. "I think Jacob had an ability like you do."
"Has."
Teddy looked up at Nathan.
"Has." Nathan grunted. "You said had... past tense. He's not dead."
"I never said he-"
Before Teddy could finish his sentence a sudden wash of rain was released from the sky. A heavy, pelting downfall that pricked their skin like needles.
Quickly the boys needed to yell just to hear each other, for the rush of the rain in their ears was overwhelming.
"Teddy! You need to help me carry Jacob! We need to find some shelter!"
"Where do we go!"
"I don't know! But it looks like it could start hailing!"
"Hey!" Derek yelled from ahead of them. "This way!"

The rain fell hard, washing out all sound and adding to the somber atmosphere of Josh's mind. The mud was thickening, so the faster he tried to run the farther he'd sink down.
A perfect analogy of his life.
He was broken on the inside, his family had been ripped out from under him, and the thing that gutted him the most was that it was by his own hands.
As his own thoughts were tearing him down, he slowed to a stumbling walk and eventually sank to his knees. The rain beat relentlessly at his back, his muscles were stiff and his head hung towards the ground.
The rain was dripping into his eyes, blurring his vision, so it took a moment before he could make out the muddy and worn hiking boots standing directly in front of him. He looked up and wiped the water out of his eyes.
Everything seemed to move in slow motion.
The rain rolled down the bill of the man's hat and fell to the ground with a splatter, sending ripples into the muddy water. Josh thought he was seeing things again, but the end of the man's mouth curled into a smile and his hand was stretched out towards him.
"..Soli."
Josh abruptly rose to his feet and stammered towards his brother. "I thought- I thought you were dead."
"I know man," Solomon struggled to keep his younger brother upright. "I'm sorry."
In an exhausted and somewhat pitiful gesture Josh swung his arms around his brother and held tight. "I thought you were gone."
Solomon gladly returned the hug. "It's alright, I'm back now."
"Aw man, I thought-"
"Joshua." The word was strong.
Held between Solomon's two fingers was a small camcorder chip caked in mud.
"I need your help."

"Hey guys!" Derek turned around to face his friends. "You think that would do it!"
Nathan scanned the area were Derek had pointed and spotted an old, dome shaped building seemly afloat in the middle of a large lake.
"How would we get to it!?"
"There!" Derek pointed to a worn dock leading across the water.
"I guess it'll have to do!"
