27 - Promise (I)

"Promise," Jimin whispers to himself, the word escaping his lips like a delicate sigh. It feels like the perfect title for the song he's working on for months now. Simply: Promise.

It took him by surprise, this sudden realization that had seamlessly weaved its way into his consciousness as he let his gaze wander through the levels of the Citi Field baseball stadium. It came to him so unexpectedly, yet in a natural way. As if the decision had been made long before, waiting patiently for the right moment to reveal itself. It is the feeling of hope, the expectation of something better, and the promise of the beginning of a new chapter. It is nothing more than a simple but irresistible invitation: Promise.

A wide smile spreads across Jimin's face, reflecting his immense relief. Full of newfound energy, he turns around and seeks Yoongi amidst their performance of 'Answer: Love Yourself'. The concert would end in a few minutes, but he can't wait to meet Yoongi's gaze.

The elder must be unaware of the rush of inspiration that had untangled countless knots in Jimin's mind. And yet, the singer feels an urgent need to look into Yoongi's face. Yoongi offers a welcoming smile and a playful wink when their gazes finally meet. Butterflies flutter in Jimin's stomach, his heart pounding with anticipation. He doesn't mind that Yoongi is unaware of the impact this moment has on him. All Jimin wants is to bask in the joy of this moment.

In the past few weeks, Yoongi had made an effort to make Jimin feel comfortable around him, carefully choosing his words and actions. The elder didn't pressure him, but he also didn't push him away. And it worked. Over time, Jimin gradually regained the trust that had been shattered when Yoongi rejected him.

Jimin is relieved that Yoongi seems to have forgiven him for his previous behavior. The memory of their time in Han River Park lingers in his mind, a moment of missed opportunities and unspoken words. It was supposed to be their chance to finally have the conversation about their feelings that they had avoided in Malta. But Jimin wasn't ready, his fear and insecurity made him shy away from the depth of their feelings and instead distracted both of them by trying to make out. He knows that he has disappointed Yoongi and the weight of that disappointment has caused him immense pain.

But dwelling on the past is not something Jimin wants to do anymore. In this moment, he savors the joy shared with his bandmates and their devoted fans.

'I'll be honest with you tonight'

Jimin contemplates the words he has just put down on paper. The soft light from the desk lamp casts shadows on the delicate features of his face. He has been sitting at the desk in his hotel room for several hours now, working on the lyrics of his song 'Promise'. No doubt that this is actually work. Namjoon had taught him some techniques to get into a creative writing flow. And so, he produces pages and pages of text fragments, some of which he hopes to use for the song. He puts down on paper every idea that even touches his consciousness.

'I'll be honest with you tonight'.

He reflects on the fact that he still finds it difficult to be honest about his own feelings and thoughts, and that he has actually decided to be more honest with himself and others.

Involuntarily, he has to think about Yoongi. How Jimin used to be able to make him laugh so easily, something no one else could do. How the elder was always a safe haven for him. He can't help but think of the many times when he almost confessed his feelings to him, but never crossed the final line.

Suddenly, a warm, tingling euphoria floods his senses. Jimin sees the solution in front of his eyes, on the piece of paper in front of him. He will be honest with Yoongi.

Jimin's heart beats wildly, literally jumping out of his chest. These feelings are simply too strong to resist. It goes through his mind that this is also how it feels when he is on stage, when he dances, when he sings, when he can live his biggest dreams once again. How exhilarating it is, how liberating.
