||This chapter is narrated from Wednesday's perspective||
Enid's words lingered in the air, wrapping around us like a warm embrace.
Her understanding and unwavering support touched a part of my soul that had long been hidden away. In that moment, I knew that I didn't have to face the shadows alone.
"I... I appreciate your forgiveness and your understanding, I promise, from now on, I won't hide anything from you." I stammered, my voice choked with emotions.
Enid reached out and gently took my hand, intertwining her fingers with mine. Her touch is the only one I don't feel repulse to, it sent a surge of warmth through me.
"Good! Now, let's focus on finding out who is this stalker. We can't let them continue to threaten your life or anyone else's" Enid said, her voice full of determination
"I've been trying to trace the messages, but they always come from different numbers and I admit I'm still not that well with technology" I said as I let go of Enid's hand to look for all the information I had gathered so far. I rummaged through my backpack, pulling out a notepad filled with jotted-down numbers and timestamps.
Enid's expression softened, and she leaned closer, scanning the pages. "Let me take a look, Wednesday. Maybe I can spot something you missed."
I handed her the notepad since Enid had always been more tech-savvy than me, and her expertise could be the key to unraveling the mystery.
As Enid studied the notes, her brows furrowed in concentration. "These messages are definitely sent from different sources, but there might still be patterns we can find. Let's see if there's any correlation between the timing or the content of the messages."
We spent the next hour seated in the floor analyzing the messages, comparing the dates, times, and phrases used.
Thing appeared sometime in the middle of our analysis and was currently in Enid's shoulder.
"Wednesday, look at this" she said, pointing at a set of messages. "These two messages, sent a week apart, have a similar structure and use specific keywords. It's subtle, but it might be a clue."
"Is there any way to trace the origin of these messages?" I asked
"I have a friend who's a tech expert. I can reach out to him and see if he can assist us in tracing the origin of these messages."
"Who?" I asked
"Alex, he left Nevermore before you arrived, so you haven't had the chance to meet him. But I do have his phone number, and I believe he would be willing to help us. He was one of the few Furs that weren't jerks to me, so don't worry he is cool" Enid explained
I nodded, understanding the situation. "Even though I haven't met him, if he's one of the few Furs who treated you well despite not wolfing out, then I trust your judgment. Let's reach out to him and see if he can assist us."
Enid's eyes lit up again, and she quickly retrieved her phone. After a few moments of typing, she showed me the screen. "I just sent him a message explaining the situation and asking for his help. Hopefully, he'll respond soon."
We settled into a brief moment of silence, anticipation filling the air. I couldn't help but wonder what kind of person this Alex was and what interest he may have had in Enid.
Enid's phone buzzed, and she eagerly checked the screen.
"He says he's willing to help and suggests meeting us tomorrow at the café" Enid exclaimed with a smile.
"Very well, then we should rest" I said as I stood up, and Enid did the same, mirroring my actions.
As we began to gather our things, Thing asked Enid a question that freeze me.
Since Alex is a werewolf , I was wondering if he is courting you?
Enid's eyes widened slightly, caught off guard by the question.
"Thing don't be importunate" I said
"Is okay, Thing it's only curious" Enid said as she smile at Thing
Yes, sorry if I made you uncomfortable
"Is okay buddy, I understand why you might wonder. But Alex is only my friend, our relationship has never crossed into romantic territory, and it never will." Enid said, her voice gentle
Her words eased the tension in my chest, and I let out a breath I didn't realize I had been holding.
GOOD
"Well if you don't have any more questions, I will go to sleep now" Enid said, her voice filled with a hint of exhaustion.
I nodded, understanding her need for rest.
"Of course, Enid. We've had a long day, and a good night's sleep will help us be at our best tomorrow. Thing come here and let Enid rest"
Enid gave me a tired but appreciative smile.
With that, we bid each other a quiet goodnight and settled into our beds.
Thing came closer to me and I look at him waiting for him to say something
You should thank me, I was making sure Alex wasn't a threat for you
"Shut up" I whispered
You're welcome
Thing go away before I could smack him. That coward...
Why would Alex be a threat to me? Is not like I want to court Enid or something, yeah Thing is just been crazy. I thought as I closed my eyes.
Once again my last thought before been embrace by sleep was Enid and her beautiful blue eyes.
