Chapter 4

Bzzz Bzzzzt bzt bzt bzzzzt. I walked out of the parking lot with humiliation, holding his phone, which was having a seizure in my hand. The temptation was great, yes, yes it was. One peek I said to myself, It won't hurt anybody. But no, after what he said to me I couldn't have him gain one more reason to humiliate me more than he already had. Face down the phone buzzed in my right hand, I couldn't help it any longer, this phone had to get to him soon.

Suddenly as I walked into the elevator, I felt a shove as the same girl that was fired yesterday came out with her belongings. The phone instantly hit the floor, and slid into a dirty puddle right infront of the elevator, and I saw my whole life flash before me as the screen shattered.

"Watch were you're going, dammit!!" I yelled.

"Woops...have fun explaining that to Carlson! Anyways, later sevyy", she ended with a laugh.

Panicking, I quickly picked up the pieces and slipped them in my pocket along with his wet phone. I examined the elevator buttons, er top floor?

Before I had enough time to gather some composure, the girl popped her head back in, and with a smile pushed the top floor button.

"Almost forgot", she giggled menacingly.

I slowly sat down on the dirty elevator floor, defeated, as the doors closed. I nodded as I gazed at the floor intently, yeah...this is where I belong.

----------------------------

I opened the door to his office to see him in his chair facing the window.

"Finally! Mash I didn't expect such a petty task to take 43 minutes and seven seconds", he said still facing the window.

I didn't reply, I had no energy left, all the crying in the elevator had used it all. So instead I simply nodded and placed his broken cellphone on his desk.

"You know I'm talking to y-", he said swiveling his chair around to face his desk. I watched him waiting for his reaction, waiting for him to insult me, and send me on my way like the other girl. He intently looked at his shattered cellphone on the desk. The screen was practically not even there anymore, and the LCD sensor screen was also damaged, not to mention the phone itself was soaking wet. Undoubtedly the damage was irreversible. After this long moment of silence he finally looked at me and our eyes locked.

"Ashley Ruby...Do you know how much this phone was worth?" he questioned standing up from his seat glaring at me.

"N-n no sir, Im sorry sir...but I assure you I can pay it off", I said hoping he would accept it.

He shook his head as he slowly walked towards me. His emerald eyes once again met mine.

"You don't get it do you?", he started laughing hysterically.

"Sir I'm sure I can pay it off with one month's salary, I can do it trust me"

His expression suddenly changed from one of amusement to one full of anger, his eyes flared with anger. He then walked towards me quickly. My back hit the wall as there was absolutely no distance left between us.

"It was not the phone itself it was what it contained! All the work data, files, contacts, projects ideas, plans etc. Pooof!! All bloody gone because of you! Everything was stored in that phone. That was the safest place for it to be. Now I'm going to have to get my technician to see if he can salvage any data whatsoever"

"I know it's horrible but was it all saved only on here, was there no backup?"

"Sure there is back up for all those things but one thing, the most important thing that was on here, can't be replaced, but trust me you'll regret this as if some petty amounts of money and sorry are going to fix it. I'll tell you this you're going to pay for it, that's a given, no compromises, but not with money", he ended with a smirk on his face.
