Chapter 2

As everybody lowered their gaze in shame I could feel three emotions, guilt and fright. I felt guilty to know everybody got yelled at because of me. Which was rightfully so, over everybody he picks the one that doesn't belong. I was also feeling fright because, at that moment, I could tell everyone who had lowered their gaze, hated me. That's when a voice interrupted my train of thought.

"YOU!" he said.

"Huh", was my response.

"Yeah! Ruby! In my office NOW!" he didn't seem too happy. After saying that he walked into his office awfully. As soon as he walked in I felt death glares piercing through my body, if looks could kill...Great, it went from the "Why is she here?" look to the "Get her out of here!" look. I lowered my gaze, and kept walking forward...to his office.

I gulped as I opened his office door. As my eyes moved across the room I noticed a beautiful gold plated name plate with the name er-  his name, Max Carlson, engraved on it.  He was staring at me silently. Once the door had fully closed, he finally said something.

"SIT!" He said getting up from his chair. I sat, scared for my life.

"Now, what was your name again...Ah! Ashley! Ashley Ruby!" he said. Before I could reply he continued, "Its way too long, it's annoying, and takes too long to say, and I don't like to waste my time!" Again before I could say something he continued, "I will call you Ash!"

I was speechless, it's not like he was going to let me say anything anyway, but still...I was speechless. Before he was about to say anything else, he stopped in his tracks, turned around, and walked towards me. He stopped in front of where I was sitting, put his hands on the arm rest area and leaned down. His face directly in front of mine. His impeccable green eyes and Messy, but stylish black hair. His six foot tall slim but masculine figure towering over me. I was once again speechless.

"Before I move on, You do work here right?" he questioned.

"Umm yeah?" Why did I answer with a question? I thought to myself.

"Hmm...What floor?" He queried, his eyes piercing holes in mine.

"s-s-Seventh!" I answered half confidently.

His eyes went from questioning to full of regret. He sighed, stood up, and went back to his seat. Put his head in his hands and sighed once more before speaking. Was I supposed to be offended? I thought to myself.

"Not even above the tenth floor", he mumbled before speaking in full voice again, "SO your part of the Board of editing and revising, huh?"

"Umm yes" I replied.

"SO how much experience have you got in editing and revising?" he asked, probably waiting for an answer to at least give him a little hope that the decision he made was right. I was scared to reply, knowing my answer would probably not satisfy him.

"I-I started working here 2-"before I could finish he interrupted again.

"Great at least two years", I could see his face full of regret come back to a face which was barely satisfied.

"Two...days" I finished. Instantly his face went to that of defeat, then to mad. At this point, I'm sure he knew his decision was wrong.

"Damn!  I had to pick the employee that was the least experienced and from one of the useless floors"

At this point I really was offended but once again before I could say anything he spoke up.

"Look...Mash, you are from one of the really unnecessary floors, and before you get offended, realize you've been working here for no more than two days, and how hard it will be for me to train you to be my secretary, but I will have to do it because...well just because!"

That's when I had had enough, "Look Max Carlson, My name is Ashley, and you wanted to call me Ash and I'm fine with it as long as you don't call me Mash! And as far as working with you is concerned, I don't know about that either, I just came up here to give you this letter, and my job is done here, so I'm leaving! But before I go, just because someone works below the tenth floor, that doesn't automatically make them useless!" As soon as I said that, I stood up and looked at him. He was staring at me, but this time curiously. That's when I realized what I had just said and put a hand above my mouth. Here, know I knew for sure that I had demolished all chances of him appreciating me. "I'm so sorry! Mr. Carlson."

That's when a smirk arose his face, "That's more like it! That regretful face of yours is what defines you from being a seventh floor employee to a twentieth floor employee". That's when I thought that I hadn't ruined my chances that badly.

"Also, before you leave, remember my code of conduct

1.Be here one hour before me!

2.Have everything prepared before I get here.

3.Remember your status, which is below zero

4. You either reply "Yes" or "Yes Sir" got it?

5.Your an absolute nuisance to me! The only reason you're here, is because I can't change what I said, and I don't ever go back on my word"
