Chapter 5
What was so important on there, that he's going to give me an actual "punishment", I mean sure I didn't do my job right...Wait a second, every time I'm with him I'm never able to do my job anyways. Fetching phones, being yelled at, that wasn't in the contract! I'm not some sort of bell boy! Might as well had asked for coffee, or maybe a subway foot long? I'm done the pressure has gotten to me, and now, at home, although I feel a little bit relaxed, I can't deal with this every day. Sure I have a crush on him, but this is too much for me. That's it!, Ill find a job else where, I mean, I'm educated enough. But then I think, this is such a prestigious company, and only a select few get employed there. Not to mention ill be throwing away a job on one of the top floors.
Interrupting my train of thought, I felt something crawling on my foot, and looked down to see a cockroach.
"AAaaaah", a scream escaped my lips, as I jumped up on the couch, I looked around to realize my reality.
Let's face it, I live in a dump. This job is an opportunity for me to get out of here find a good place to live, get settled. Then, once I was stable enough I would throw the job in his face, crush, or not. But for right now, resigning would be like throwing away a gift. That's settled, I'm not leaving because of him, I need this job, just until I'm stable enough to not have the risk of losing everything, if I can't find another job.
Knock! Knock!
Once again, my train of thoughts was interrupted, but this time by loud knocks on the door. To lazy to put something nice on, I walked to open the door in my pjs, I mean my manager had seen me walking around in my pjs all the time, consisting of a normal plain t shirt and a comfy pair of shorts. Plus, it was too late in the night for me to keep switching back in forth through my clothes. The people that know me close enough, know how much I hate unnecessary changing of clothes.
Opening the door without hesitation I began, "Yes, Mr.Gill ill get the rent to you by this Monday I promise, its ju-", I stopped in the middle of my sentence as I saw who was really standing there, Max, out of all times and places. I was full of embarrassment, surprise, and pinch of angry at the same time. He couldn't see me like this! I could hear my dignity flushing itself in the toilet at the moment. Not to mention what I was wearing, oh heavens no, I never wanted him to see me looking like the couch potato I truly was.
"Wow! You live in this dump?", he scoffed. After gathering enough pose, I was ready to speak my mind.
"What is it to you? Why are you here at my house! At midnight!? This is just unprofessional! ", He stopped me in the middle of my sentence as he started to laugh menacingly.
"Don't tire yourself, you have no importance to me. I'm just here to tell you the price of your actions. I've come to a conclusion no matter how much you try you'll never be able to make up for the thing I lost from that phone, and since I also blame myself for the ridiculous decision of letting you fetch it for me. I'm going to make you do a long, simple, but time consuming favor over however long it takes you. Your going to have to go out with the director of editing, in other words your previous team leader, supervisor, or whatever you used to call him-"
"What!? You mean go out with Mr. Berch! Why would I do that!?", I said.
"Its cause I said so, and the reasons are none of your concern, go out with him until I say, then simply break up with him. Keep in mind that you either say yes, or I make your life a living hell!", he said as if it was as simple as buying groceries. It's someone's emotions were dealing with here, and what an obscure favor. It's totally unacceptable.
"What if I resign?" I asked, feeling as if I had now won the conversation.
He leaned in close to my face causing me to take a step back in my house, and said, "It doesn't look like you're in any position to do that, now does it?"
He got me, he was right, without the job I was toast. His eyes stared into mine, maybe three inches away from each other. It was so mesmerizing seeing him so up close. I took two steps back, increasing my distance, and he leaned back up straightening himself.
"So, have you made up your mind?" He asked as if he was actually giving me a choice here.
Our eyes still locked, the only word that could escape my lips were, "ok"
"That's the spirit! See you tomorrow Mash", and he was gone. I closed my door, sat on my couch, just thinking of what I had got myself into.
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh my brain just kept going wild all night, needless to say my eyes wouldn't heed to my request of closing, all night,as I rolled back and forth in bed.
