Chapter 2 Let the hunt begin

Senrei village was on the border of the Kogeta province, while being a small village it had a lot of natural defenses such as mountains to the east, a huge lake to the north, open grasslands to the south and a bit further away a large river to the west, which made it perfect for Maria to get her life on track. The first thing she would do is search for a bar, they were usually good locations to get local information.

People would glance and stare at her as she walked past, probably confused as to why someone who looked and walked like nobility was dressed like a homeless person. As she walked she saw food stalls lining the street selling an assortment of fruits and vegetables that had been grown on the edges of the village. A few stalls sold materials for different craftsmanships, a few sold meat most likely pig and lamb given how common those particular animals were.

She had gone to a few stalls selling the fur pelts and fresh meat she had acquired on her journey to the village, she wasn't loaded but she had enough to start off. After buying some basic civilian clothes she made her way to the local tavern to get a room for the night and to gather information.

Opening the door into the tavern a few eyes fell onto Maria as she walked up to the counter, none of which felt particularly inviting but she wasn't afraid, at most of the big guys would be about as strong as a genin.

"how much for a room for a few nights?".

The man behind the bar studied the white haired woman ahead of him for a moment before pointing to the black board behind him.

"it's two thousand ryo a night, that's breakfast and dinner included".

Maria slid six thousand ryo over to the man and got up ready to go find her room before asking around for anything she needed, However before she got a chance to move a big muscled man approached her and put his hand on her shoulder with what she assumed he believed to be a tight grip.

"Hey there beautiful you don't need your own room you can share with me tonight we can have some fun"

Maria could actually feel the man's eyes trying to undress her and she wasn't about to let the man think she was easy prey, no not anymore she promised herself she wouldn't be prey anymore.

"I would suggest you remove your hand from my shoulder, else you may find yourself rather handicapped"

"Oh you think you're tough I like the feisty ones they scream the loudest, it seems you don't know who I am, in this village my word is law, now you'll take your pretty self up to my room and"

He didn't get to finish that sentence as he was now flying through several tables, Maria walked over to the man picking up a knife along the way and with one slice she had made good on her threat.

The man screamed holding his now stump, he looked up glaring at Maria, he didn't even see her move and he didn't realise how tall she was until she stood up. The big man looked her dead in the eyes and saw nothing no emotion, no meaning, her eyes scared the man he couldn't stop staring and the closer she got to him the heavier he felt and more he felt like he was being stalked by a hunter , of course he was the prey, that look she was giving him, the look of complete nothing would haunt his dreams for the rest of his life.

"P-p-please spare me I'm sorry just don't kill me"

The man cowered against the wall he had crawled towards, he had forgotten about his lack of a hand as the killing intent coming from the woman had frozen him in complete fear.

Maria bent down and grabbed the man's collar and pulled him up to eye level, narrowing her eyes towards the man.

"I'll forgive your Brutish nature if you give some information I want to know"
