Vallavarayan found himself fighting with the Prince's men again. Why do people insist on quarreling with him? Or was it he who was picking up the fights by letting his tongue run? He did not know. All he wanted to know was if the Prince was all well."Aiya, Let me in, I want to see the Prince!" Vallavarayan implored. The soldiers shook their heads.
"We can't let anyone in Malayaman's command." The soldiers blocked his way. Vallavarayan clicked his tongue in annoyance.
"I saved him!" Vallavarayan protested.
"His friend Parthibendra Pallavan saved him. Not you."
Vallavarayan arched his eyebrows. How dare they give credit to someone else for his hard work.
"I'm his friend too! Ask your Prince." Vallavarayan said, crossing his arms. The soldiers looked at each other, then turned back to Vallavarayan and laughed at him, straight in his face. Vallavarayan's hands itched to reach out for his sword and lunge at them.
"You? Karikalar's friend? This face is Karikalan's friend? You and your hair. Go, shoo."
Vallavarayan's blood boiled. First, they refuse to let him in. Now they talk about his luscious locks?
"Haan," He shrugged simply. "The Prince would be really agitated if they found out you insulted his friend." Vallavarayan feigned being scared. "Aiyo, I don't want to be here to witness his anger," He turned back to leave.
"Thambi...wait." The soldiers stopped him and looked at each other hesitantly.
"Who knows how many heads are going to roll today..." Vallavarayan told to himself, eyeing the soldiers' reactions.
"Fine...you can go. Don't tell Karikalar that we insulted you or anything."
A mischievous smile graced Vallavarayan's face. "Thank you." He said, entering the camp. "You're a genius Vandiyadeva..." He praised himself for the stunt he had just played. But would the Prince be mad at him for lying about his friendship? Vallavarayan shrugged. That's a problem for tomorrow, right now, he wanted to see the Prince.
Vallavarayan quietly made his way around the camp, not knowing where to look. Before he could slip into one of the rooms, a pair of strong hands pulled him causing his back to hit the wall behind him. Before he could open his eyes, he felt a dagger on his throat.
"Pallava arase? Not this again?" Vallavarayan drawled.
"How did you get in?" Pallavan asked, withdrawing the dagger.
"The guards let me in," Vallavarayan replied simply.
Pallavan raised a brow. "Oh...So, what brings you here?"
"I just wanted to know if the Prince is well," Vandiyadevan asked. Pallavan bit his lower lip, nervously. Vallavarayan's heart jumped a beat. "Is he not well?"
"No, he's well, he's just really hot-headed right now." Pallavan massaged his temples.
"Oh." Vallavarayan gulped.
"Don't worry. He asked me for you," Pallavan said, leading him toward the Prince's chambers.
Vallavarayan's face lit up. "He did?" For which the Pallavan king nodded. Vandiyadevan couldn't contain his excitement.
"Here." Pallavan said, pushing open two large doors which lead to the Prince's chambers. "Ilavarase?"
Vallavarayan trailed behind Parthibendran, his eyes landed on Karikalan staring emptily at the night sky.
"Hmm?" Karikalan hummed.
"The Vanar Kula Ilavarasan is here." Pallavan informed him, Karikalan turned up to him almost immediately.
