Battle Camp

What is a bigger sin than betrayal? Depriving a man of his food, at least to Vandiyadevan that is. Parthibendran had been dragging him around the battle camp, pestering him with work. Vandiyadevan was really good with the horses, he had this special charm towards horses, and to Pallavan's dismay, women.

Pallavan had sent him to help the tamers.

Vandiyadevan finally sat down at night to have dinner when Pallavan approached him again, He groaned internally.

Pallavan sat down, patting Vandiyadevan's back, before he could open his mouth Vandiyadevan intervened.

"I'm not doing a damn thing until I finish my food," Vandiyadevan said sternly, turning to his food, Vandiyadevan would not get up without finishing his food usually, but now it was one of his favorite dishes, Pallavan knew for sure Vandiyadevan would not get up without inhaling every single grain of rice.

Pallavan sighed and peered over his shoulder. "Do you know what goes well with the fish curry?"

"What?" Vandiyadevan asked with a mouthful of food.

"Some alcohol," Pallavan grinned, pouring him a glass.

"Pallava, I don't drink," Vandiyadevan said. "Plus I have guard duty at night, I would be caught dead by the prince if he saw me drinking with you,"

Pallavan rolled his eyes, he knew for a fact Karikalan would've already passed out by that time. "Why don't you drink?"

"Why should I drink?" Vallavarayan retorted.

Pallavan sighed. "I'm offering you some with love, and you're declining it, is this how much you value our friendship?" Vallavarayan raised a brow. "You worked a lot today, have it man," Pallavan said, pushing him the goblet. "All your tiredness will disappear in an instant,"

"Pallava--" Before Vandiyadevan could retort Pallavan shoved the drink in his free hand and smiled, patting his back. Vandiyadevan looked at the drink with a mix of disgust and curiosity. "No one likes me being a good guy," He scrunched up his nose as he took a sip, he swallowed the drink harshly, every part of his throat feeling the liquid run down through it. "Hell no," He said placing it down, bursting into a coughing fit, Damn him, he had ruined his appetite.

"Can't handle a little drink?" Pallavan chuckled, raising a brow.

Vandiyadevan stuffed his mouth with rice, trying desperately to get the taste off his tongue. "It burns,"

Pallavan laughed as Vandiyadevan finally calmed down.

"I'm not drinking ever again," Vandiyadevan said vehemently. "I swear on this food,"

Pallavan raised a brow and leaned back on the wall. "Coward,"

Vandiiyadevan rolled his eyes as he concentrated on finishing his meal, ignoring Pallavan's drunken blabbers. After a while, a guard came by.

"Karikalar summoned you," He said, looking at Vandiyadevan.

Vandiyadevan looked at Pallavan, scared out of his wits, did he find out he had been drinking with this bastard? "Why?" He asked, looking at the guard again. The guard merely shrugged. Pallavan dismissed him.

"If I get in trouble you're coming down with me," Vandiyadevan said, dusting off his clothes as he got up to his feet, he extended an arm, helping Pallavan to get up.

Parthibendran waved at him dismissively and walked towards the tent set up for Karikalan, Pallavan nudged Vandiyadevan in.

Karikalan was reading an olai his brows furrowed in deep concentration, "I thought I only summoned Vandiyadevan," Karikalan said, without taking his eyes off the message.
