This one was not an easy one, Vergil wouldn't say the opposite. Clearly, Ishikawa Goemon was really an easy task, really understanding and listening to what he had to say.
But William Kidd was totally not the same.
In fact, he was only able to bring the pirate back because the young man's body was really tired and hurt, mainly his leg, where the bone was fractured in the past. That must hurt like hell. And, for knowing hell way too well, Vergil knew it wasn't something to say lightly. Injuries over past ones were some of the worst he experimented.
The pirate believed him when he said devil hunters where the cause of their torments. He believed him when he said it was because they started to fear Arsène and Sathanaël, the strength they gave to Joker. He believed him when he said he was in a totally other dimension.
He didn't believe Vergil when he said he knew about this from Lavenza and Igor.
In fact, he seemed to think Vergil told him everything just in order to distract him and kill him with ease. He said that while knowing that Vergil just saved his ass from junkies who beat the shit out of him... while using Asians slurs to talk about him. And they did this after saying they would help him finding someone who could listen to him. After that bad encounter, he maybe didn't want to give his trust too easily a second time. And it was a normal way to think.
Those guys, Vergil had their faces printed in his memory, will leave the town in just a couple of day for their sheer stupidity. He will make them pay for making his job harder. He was able to do so with that bastard of Enzo, he would gladly do it another time.
They were so stupid they found William's weak point just by pure luck. Wouldn't they have hurt his leg first; he would have kicked their asses with a lot of ease. He was probably strong enough for that, especially seeing his thunder's abilities. Clearly, this kid was a lot like his Nero... with Trish's elemental powers.
Making obvious that Dante would have been better to deal with the young man.
Like, he was always better to talk to Nero than Vergil will ever be. And Vergil did try to be a father for his adult son. The one his own father wanted to be... the one Sparda would have want him to become. Maybe they should really switch their roles as father and uncle. As true twin, it could be really easy to make it look like Dante was the real dad. Nero would probably be hurt, but they needed to accept this fact, Vergil will never know how to be a good dad.
But, to come back to William, the cherry on the top of his problems cake, those people who attack him were adult men, probably in their forties. Just like Vergil. And, knowing about the kid's traumas, the Persona probably started to judge him by comparing him to those men. He maybe even felt insecure being with him.
Stupid? Maybe? But, sometimes, you can't be totally rational about everything. Especially when you had to deal with traumas.
He didn't say any more things, but William silence tends to make the hunter really nervous. Odd, considering he usually loves silence. Maybe it was because of his son's family's usual noises. Having people so loud around him most of the time make him feel uneasy when they were no noises around anymore.
It was maybe a good sign. In hell, he learned that noises meant someone was close, probably ready make him live a living nightmare. Now, the meaning was totally different. It meant safety and warms and no oppressing loneliness.
So, going back to silence, especially while being with a being known for his loud and anger was nerves wracking.
In front of the office, Vergil spotted Vitali leaving again. His grip on his cane was firm but shaky because he probably started to feel really tired. The poor lad still wasn't used of that kind of thing. He has a really tough time building himself some stamina. And none of his familiars were here, probably because he didn't have the strength to summon any of them.
Nero will gladly coddle his husband that night, knowing his son strong caring instincts.
Really a pack demon. That's probably what lead him to have two wives and two husbands at the same time, making them like each other, love each other. They were a solid polyamorous group and Vergil was proud of his son to have achieve this. Even among pure blood demons, packs were not really a stable thing. Apparently, that was thing humans were better for: giving love to more than one.
"How many Phantoms are already here?" He asked his human counterpart, his thoughts again on their case. Vitali came closer to talk to him, noticing the limping pirate. As limping as himself. Maybe they'll lend him a cane, Vitali having a spare one.
Never know what could happen to his usual one.
"Six. Goemon, Jeanne and Necro are already talking about the way to wake their human partners up." He sighed while trying to not look as tired as he really was. Or he would never hear the end of it. "Charlotte and Robin are taking care of Jean, who had been seriously injured."
"How?!" Said Kidd for the first time since a long moment, mad from what he just heard. "How Jean had been hurt! Don't tell me..."
"It was demons' claws. From last night attack. At least, from what Robin Hood told me." Cut Vitali, fierce but shaken from what just happened. Damn, the guy was so silent the hunter thought him comatose or something. "Nero gave him something to heal from it, but he's still really tired from the blood lose. He needs to rest. Robin and Milady stay by side, to be sure his condition doesn't worsen."
"How can I know you tell me the truth?" Still with his doubt. They will hardly leave him.
"William? Is that you?" A voice from behind the office door. Robin Hood. He just opened the door to see if heard correctly. He was shocked by what he seen. The shine in his eye faltered a bit, like Loki tried to switch place, before stabilizing to Robin. "Good gracious! What happened to you?!" He rushed past Vitali to grab his lover, checking on his injuries. "That's seems pretty bad! You'll need quick healing! Especially your leg! Come inside!"
"Wait a minute. Don't tell me you have faith in them, Robin?!" Why wouldn't he believe his own teammate? That was insane!
"Me, yeah, of course I have. Everyone in the group that's already here has. Loki has still some doubts about everything, but you know him. His trust issues are worse than yours." Robin started to take Kidd away from Vergil to bring him inside, helping him walking. "But forget that. We need to patch you up. Right now. And I don't want to hear you whining like a baby." He said before William could complain. He was about to say something, but Robin's threat fell before the whining. "Or I will switch with Loki. You don't want that, don't you?!"
"Okay." It was obvious that William was just sucking it up to not be confronted to Loki. "But tell me who hurt Jean. Was it that bad?"
"You should say 'what.' It was a demon with big sharp claws. We were really lucky that Loki was able to climb its back to break its neck. Or else, the fifth of us would be dead." How to make everyone shut up.
Letting the two Personae go, Vitali and Vergil get back to their research. Really, Loki wasn't just dangerous in a cognitive space. He was also dangerous in the real world when Akechi gave him full control. None of them knew what to think about it.
