An Odd Case

"Oh, man, I'm all sore." Complained Dante, letting himself fall flat on his couch. "Bro, you're sure the dimensional fracture his down there? I didn't see anything but ruins and ruins and trash."

"Pretty positive." Was Vergil's answer while putting Yamato on the desk. Sitting on his brother's chair, he took a silk cloth from one of the desk's drawers to clean the blade of his beloved partner. The older twin added absentmindedly. "And I can say for sure that something powerful passed through it. I also feel a lot of different kind of energies; devils, spirits, humans."

"Look like summoners, just like me. But, at the same time, it's different." Added an obviously tired V in a thoughtful whisper, slowly taking his seat next to Dante's head. For once, Griffon was silent, remaining still in V's skin, Vergil's threat being more efficient than everything they tried. The only sound he heard in the back of his mind was Shadow's low and comforting purring. "I must admit, I'm pretty curious about them."

"Don't you guys think that, if Yamato can't detect the precise location of this dimensional fracture, it's maybe because this one had been done all wrong?" Absentmindedly asked Nero while putting his coat to a hanger next to the shop entrance, thinking a lot. "That this fracture doesn't look like a normally done dimensional portal?"

"I... I must admit, I didn't have thought about this possibility..." Vergil stopped his Yamato's cleaning to think a second. "Maybe this one doesn't have a usual shape because of the way it had been done."

"I must admit, I didn't though about this possibility either." Couldn't help but add V.

"Why didn't I think of this sooner than that?" Was annoyed Vergil against himself.

"Does that mean we will have to returned back there?" Asked a whining Dante. He didn't want to. He hated those kinds of jobs so much.

"Not today." Was V's answer in a tired sigh. "We need to rest first."

"What do you want to eat?" Nero asked them while putting Blue Rose and Red Queen on the coffee table.

"No pizza tonight, Dante." Said suddenly Vergil, making his brother complaining soundly. "Stop with the winning. We still have a lot of leftovers, after all."

"Hope you don't mind if I pick first." V stand up to follow Nero on the kitchen, low step and most of his inexistent weight put on his cane.

"Urgh. What do you think of it?" Asked Dante to his brother when Nero and V weren't here anymore. He stands up to take his coat off and put it on the desk's chair back. He finally took Ebony and Ivory from their holsters to put them next to Blue Rose, the three of them will be cleaned the next day. "I mean, about the energies you felt back there. Allies? Threat? Something else?"

"They're powerful, I can't deny it." Was Vergil's answer while taking his own coat off to put it with Dante's before sitting back again on the chair. "But clearly not a threat. I'm almost sure they're not the one who provoked this fracture. Their energies seemed too confused to me. They seemed to say 'What just happened to us? Where are we? Why are we here?' They also seemed young to me, too young to be able to do this."

"You think you can track them by their energies?" Asked Dante to his brother.

"Well, of course I can." Vergil's proud assurance was back. It makes Dante smile, the hunter clearly amused by his twin's attitude. "I even think we should look after them in first place. We need to have them answering us."

"What are you guys waiting for?" Nero called them from the kitchen door. He had always hated when the twins started talking like this in their back. "We already choose our food, with Vitali. We're waiting for you."

"Coming, dear nephew." Was Dante's answer to his said nephew, making Nero roll his eyes to the sky in an annoyed way. Dante smiled for himself. Since Nero knew about the bond they shared, he could call him his nephew as much as he wanted, proud of the young man. And he knew his twin felt the same toward his son.

The one making him uneasy was V, renamed Vitali soon after his rebirth because he really needed a real name to fit the human world. How and why Vergil make him came back with them as soon as he could have been a mystery to Dante. Especially since, this time, there was no mad Urizen running around and trying to unleash hell on earth to gain more power.

Looking at Vitali, this one sitting at the table while lost again in the reading of a new poems book, he wondered about something.

Did Vitali was a younger brother to Dante? Or another nephew, equal to Nero?

Weird questions, some could say.

"Are you still trying to figure how you should consider me, Dante?" Vitali asked him without looking up at his elder. Dante couldn't help but sighed in approval. "I already told you; I think. You can pick whatever you want between 'brother' and 'nephew.' I don't mind."

"I think that don't help him at all, hon." Tried Nero, standing next to him. The young hybrid gave his consort his plate before sitting next to him and in front of his own meal. Vitali closed his book in silence to start eating.

"Odd, I was sure it remained some rice salad in the fridge." Wondered Vergil by looking for the said salad in the said fridge. "Where is it?"

"Here. In the salad bowl under the pasta plate." That was Dante, looking over his twin's shoulder, pointing the said pasta plate. "I'll take these pastas." They spent their evening together, eating without speaking anymore of their tricky case, Shadow by their side. The big feline wanted to eat too, chicken wings if it was possible?

That didn't mean they didn't talk at all. Well, to be more precise, that didn't mean Dante didn't annoyed his brother and his nephew with the future event that was going to happen.

The subject of Kyrie's pregnancy was still a bit touchy for Vergil. He will be a grandfather too soon after discovering he had a son to say it in a straightforward way. Not that he didn't like the idea. It was just that so many things had come into his life in a so brief time.

Nero seemed to be the happiest man in the world when thinking about their child. The five consorts already decided how they will name the baby but never wanted to tell anyone, even Dante and Vergil. Nero said it was he's little surprise, Kyrie and Vitali following him in this idea. Nico too but it was just to annoy the twins. Oddly enough, Credo followed her that way.

It was simple and it was nice.

Before the four hunters could go upstairs to joins their three beds, really needing to sleep, Nero called Kyrie to tell her their problem was not resolve yet, meaning both him and Vitali will have to remain with the twins. They were both sorry that they wouldn't be able to go with the girls for the medical appointment, the next day.

She didn't mind at all, understanding the situation. A dimension rip, so strong that it makes Yamato shivers of apprehension, the poor tormented girl, wasn't something to take too slightly.

She wished the good night to both her men, giving them mental kisses the two of them accepted gladly before promising they will be back as soon as they can. She promised, on her side, that she will call them the next day to give them the news from the appointment.

For a second, Vitali even though of forcing Vergil on a week off with them, at Fortuna. As much for the man himself, so he can have some quality time with his son and son/daughters-in-law. And as much for than his poor partner, Yamato. This lady really needed a break.

But, during their sleep, they all received a weird message from a blue butterfly.
