"Jonas?" Lily said in a low disappointment whisper. There was only an echo of her voice in the long hall. There was no reply, not the reply she wanted.
"Huh? I'm Jonas? Do I know you?" A voice Lily didn't recognize asked her. A teenager older than Fiona and Asher, he has black hair and blue eyes like his mom.
"Oh, no. I apologize, I thought you were someone else." Lily said, her voice breaking wiping away her tears.
"Oh I forgive you, but I'm sorry for whatever I did. I didn't want you to cry." He said in a worried tone.
"It-it's fine." Lily said, trying to find the right words. She knew she was sad, but something else, maybe mad? No, she knew how she felt. She was disappointed, but disappointed in who? Jonas her brother for not being there? No it's not his fault he didn't know she was coming. Or Jonas the kid of Rosa? No he didn't do anything wrong. "I'm just disappointed. I'm sorry I thought we're someone else." She said, still wiping her tears.
"Lily!? Are you okay!?" Lily's father said in the background running towards her.
"Yeah" she said, lying to her father.
"Are you sure?" Her father asked, concerned knowing she was lying.
"I-I just thought he was Jonas, my Jonas I mean and I'm just sad that he isn't here you know?" She said as they walked to back to the supper table
"Yes sweetie I know, but we will find him don't worry." He said in his special comforting voice he used to use on Gabe hugging his daughter.
As they both walked back. When they made it back to the dining table they went to their original seats. Lily couldn't stop thinking about why she was feeling disappointed, in who? She asked herself. She thought about it for a long time, and she found out she was disappointed in herself. For getting her hopes up and for being so dumb. As the tears started fall she felt something on her leg.
"Hey, Lily look!" Asher said pointing at Gabe the cat snuggling Lily's legs
"Awww" Lily said, picking up Gabe wiping her tears on him. "I love you Gabe." She said to him with her heart filled with love.
"Hello everyone. I'm Jonas and I live here." Jonas said as he entered the room nervously. "I know you are looking for someone else named Jonas and I'm not him, sorry." He said sincerely
"Hello Jonas, I'm Samantha" Samantha said to him with a smile.
"I'm Joey." Joey said
"I'm Christopher or Chris"
"I'm Fiona"
"And I'm Asher."
"And I'm John and you already know Lily." Lily's father replied nervously
"It's nice to meet you," Jonas said with a smile taking his seat at the table. Lily could tell he was still nervous because fidgeting with his fork.
"Ok! Supper is ready." Rosa said as she entered the room, hands filled with a feast of food. As she plotted down the food on the table, Lily could see Gabe drooling, especially at the big large turkey in the middle of the table. Lily had to hold Gabe back so he wouldn't jump on the table, but she knew that she was drooling too. All the food on the table looked so scrumptious, the warm hot soup and the chicken called kare kare felt and tasted so good. It had melted in her mouth and the rich peanut flavor made her want to drool more.
"Wow! This is so good!" Fiona shouted looking like she was going to attack it.
"Mmhmm! I agree, thank Rosa!" Asher said with a large smile on his face.
"Thank you." Rosa replied "Now, let's eat!"
As they all began to dig in Lily couldn't help, but to think of Jonas. Questions went through her head, if Jonas isn't here, then where is he? She asked herself over and over again. Then Fiona finally broke the ice.
"How do you know Jonas?" Fiona asked nervously to Rosa.
"Well, he actually came here." Rosa replied nervously, playing with her food. Lily gasps the room she could tell everyone in their mind was saying Jonas was here!? He made it? And she especially knew that Asher, Fiona, her father, and herself were already planning to find him.
"He did!?" Lily's father exclaimed
"Yes I did," she said chuckling with a smile "he came with a baby too." She smiled more. "The name was Gabe right?"
"Gabe survived!?" Lily said very excited. "I can't wait to meet him!"
"Where did he go?" Lily's father asked calmly, but also in an interrogative voice.
"Yes, he did survive, he was very cute too. He went to my sister Clarissa's village. They wanted to leave immediately and find their own adventure."
"Just like us!" Joey exclaimed, but still munching on his food.
"Mmhmm!" Samantha agreed, still chewing too.
"Where is this village?" Lily's father asked, still in his interrogating voice.
"How nice Joey, maybe I should join them too. You'll have to take the bus, she lives in the village of Bree . He should've made it there by then." She said thoughtfully
"What's a bus?" Asher asked curiously
"Oh right, you're from somewhere where you only ride bikes." She paused trying to think of a way to explain it. "You see you have trucks in your community, correct?"
"Yes, they use them to pick up our leftovers." Lily's father said, still paying attention to every word she said.
"Ok, so a bus is like a truck but bigger and you can sit in it." She tried to explain her best.
"When can we go?" Lily asked nervously
"I think the next bus to Bree is in an hour, but you should rest. We have the room, most of my kids are on a school trip for the rest of the week."
"Thank you so much." Lily's father replied.
"You're welcome, what about you two? Christ and Lia right?" She asked them.
"Well I'm going to study this world and then go back to the community to tell them what I've seen and why they should come." Christopher said.
"I hope to become a geneticist here and follow my passion here."
"How wonderful! I'll buy the tickets for the bus, but for now you all should rest. I'll ask Jonas to lead you to your rooms." She said as she got up and started to collect the empty plates.
"Okay people, follow me." He said ignorantly.
Going up the stairs was still filled with pictures seeing grandparents were different. Back in the dwellings their walls were bare and gray, maybe a picture painted of the community on a wall sometimes, but for the most part they were empty.
"This will be your room. I hope it's comfortable." He said with a fake smile and went away.
"Wow! This is so colorful!" Lily exclaimed, jumping onto the pink bed.
"Indeed it is." Christopher said, gently sitting on the floor bed
"Ok let's find our beds and sleep, been through a lot we deserve some rest." Lily's dad said to the room
"Okay" everyone else said in reply.
While they all went to sleep Fiona could not. She kept herself up thinking about her journey and what's going to happen next. Will Jonas actually be there? Was this trip worth it? That echoed through her head. Will it be worth the trip? She asked herself over and over again, becoming louder every time, but when she saw a small twitch from Lily. It snapped her out of the trance, she remembered how excited Jonas was when he got her and she remembered how brave she had been the entire trip. And as she thought about Lily and how much she've grown with a smile. Fiona fell asleep safe and sound.
