"It's about your father...Skye...Skye?" Ward watched as Skye grew pale and her eyes glazed over, it like she was shutting down. The world slowed down to a standstill and it was as if the oxygen in the air had vanished.
"Skye!" he shouted. When she came back to the present, she found that she was lying on the ground, and Ward was crouching on his heels beside her, his hand stroking hers. She just lay there for a moment, looking at him, studying his face, and staring into those deep deceiving eyes. Then the world began to spin again, faster and faster, her heart banging louder and her fear rising higher. She snatched away her hand and frowned at him.
"Don't touch me," she mumbled and sat herself up, her head bowed low as she focused on the ground beneath her feet, "What happened?"
"You fainted I guess, must have been too much to take in," Ward explained calmly and offered her his hand. Skye didn't want his help, he's the last person she wanted to help her; but she was weak and she couldn't sit on the floor forever. Taking a firm grip of his hand, he pulled her up and held her steady as she found her feet again.
"Thanks," she said although she still didn't trust him. Ward nodded in acknowledgement and led her to the chair again.
"We can always finish this conversation tomorrow if you'd prefer some time to let the news sink in," Ward offered as he sat on the edge of the table.
"You mentioned my dad, but I haven't heard any news from you yet. So tell me," she asked, looking up at him, "Where is he?"
"That's the thing," he replied slowly, "Remember that guy that brought who here?"
"What, you mean that psychopath that attempted to kill May, threatened my friends and teleported me here? Yeah, I think I remember him," Skye replied sarcastically. Ward cleared his throat and clasped his hands together.
"Well, the thing is," he said with a sigh, "he claims to be your father." Skye didn't even flinch.
"My fa- what?" she said mostly to herself. He had to be wrong, her father couldn't be some freak who teleports and kills agents. Her mother was an agent of SHIELD so how could he be like this guy?
"Now we don't know for sure if he is or not, but he knows your name and was really, really desperate to find you," Ward slid of the table and walked around her slowly as he continued, "He came to us first, out of the blue, asking if we could help him find his daughter, at a cost of course-"
"What cost?" Skye interrupted, spinning around to face him.
"He said if we helped him find his daughter, he would pledge a lifelong service to Hydra." No, she wouldn't believe it. Her father wouldn't do that, even for his own daughter. The more she listened to Ward, the more she got angry and her mind turned into a storm of hate and doubt.
"No, my father would never join Hydra. My mother was a SHEILD agent, why would he go against her for me?" Skye refused to accept the prospect of her father working alongside Ward. It was a most disagreeable alliance.
"Your mother is dead. Your father can side with whoever he pleases. It won't affect her or you for that matter." Ward slid his hands into the pockets of his black tailored trousers and stopped to look down at her. Skye bit her tongue and tasted blood; she couldn't hate this man enough. Looking up at him she said sternly,
"How dare you. How dare you say that to me! Do you have any respect for the dead at all?" she cried at him, standing up from the chair.
"I had a few problems with my family, I don't tend to worry about them much," he replied curtly. Skye clenched her jaw and screwed up her fist. 'I'm gonna punch this moron in the face,' she thought over and over in her mind. She would've if he hadn't have spoken first.
"Forgive me, that was a little harsh," he apologised meaningfully, looking at the ground and then back up at her. She shook her head and sighed heavily.
"I don't forgive you, Ward, not for a lot of things you've done," she replied strongly, "but... okay. Let's just get this thing over and done with." They both sat back down and started over, even though both were feeling hurt at each other's words.
"So," Skye began rocking from side to side, "when do I get realised from this prison?"
Ward looked at her square in the eyes and shook his head, "You don't."
