When we arrived at Cody house Calvin told me to park behind Cody cousin car. We both exited the car, and I walked over to the front door. Calvin rang the doorbell, and the front door opened to reveal Cody's older cousin, Corbin. A flush of panic came across my face. "Is Cody home?" I asked. "Yes, he is upstairs in his room, but he won't come out," Corbin replied. Calvin and I entered Cody's house, and Calvin said, "I'll be back" as he rushed upstairs.
"Hello, I don't think we have met," Corbin said. "Hi, I'm Xavier," I replied, "Calvin had told me so much about you." Corbin asked if I wanted anything to drink, and I said, "Sure, water would be fine." He left the room to get the water, and I waited for him in the hallway. "You can have a seat in my den while you wait for Calvin," Corbin said, handing me the cup of water "thank you"I answer.
I followed him into his den and sat down on the couch while he sat on the pull out one seater. "So, Xavier," Corbin began, "Calvin told me you and he both go to the same college?" I replied, "Yes, we do. I'm majoring in being a pediatrician." Corbin said, "Wow, that has to be tiring, with all the school work you have to do," to which I replied, "It is, but it's worth it."
Corbin then asked if he could ask me something. I said yes, and he asked, "Do I know you? It's just that you look very familiar." Then, he flashed his fangs. All of a sudden, I realized that Cody's cousin was a vampire. That meant that his family was all vampires, and so was Cody. I asked him what he wanted, "I'm not going to hurt Calvin neither is Cody"." "I'm a little static to see other vampires, I always thought my family were only ones in this town."
The sound of footsteps echoed as Calvin entered the room, "I'm ready to go," he said, his tone angry. I said my goodbyes to Corbin and Cody, who were standing by the stairs, tears streaming down Cody face. Calvin stormed towards my car. "Calvin, are you okay?" I asked, but he didn't reply. I unlocked the doors and we both stepped inside.
"Calvin, what's going on?" I asked, "Can we go?" he replied. I started the car and drove a few minutes until we were out of Cody's house's sight. I pulled the car over to the side of the road and asked again, "Calvin, what's going on?" This time, I could hear the ringing of a phone.
"Hold on, that's my phone," Calvin said, reaching into his backpack in the backseat. He grabbed it and exited the car, followed by the loudest scream I'd ever heard. I quickly got out of the car and saw tears streaming down Calvin's face. I immediately knew something bad happened.
I walked around the car and Calvin embraced me, "It's okay," I said, knowing it wasn't. "No, it's not. My brother is dead," he replied. I asked him if he wanted me to drive him to his parents' house. He nodded.
The ride to Calvin's parents' house was silent, the crushing weight of his brother's death making the car feel heavy. When we arrived, Calvin rushed to the front door. His sister opened it and asked him if he was okay, to which he replied that their mom hadn't called yet. We entered the house and Calvin and his sister spoke. His sister offered to drive us to the hospital, but Calvin said that his mom was on her way home.
The whole house felt somber. Calvin sat next to me on the living room couch and I wrapped my arms around him. After his parents arrived, he and his sister had a talk with them. When their conversation ended, Calvin asked me to follow him upstairs to his room. I followed him up, and we talked about his brother and the funeral. "You know I'll be there, I wouldn't miss it for the world," I said. Calvin wrapped his arms around me, his warm embrace feeling so nice.
