Calvin
On the day of the funeral, the atmosphere was surreal as Xavier drove me to the funeral home for my brother's service. The gathering was just the right length, with all those who cherished my brother in attendance. As the service concluded, people began to disperse.
"Calvin," Xavier's voice broke through my thoughts, drawing my attention to a group of somberly dressed men approaching us. "Hello, gentlemen," I greeted them, recognizing them from the restaurant. "What brings you here?" Xavier inquired. "Your brother was a dear friend to us. We wanted to pay our respects," they explained before respectfully departing.
"Xavier, I'm ready to head out," I informed him. "Little brother, won't you stay for dinner at our place?" my sister asked. "I have a mountain of homework waiting for me, sis," I regretfully declined. After bidding farewell to my family, I settled into the car as Xavier drove. Desperate for a distraction, I rolled down the window, feeling the breeze against my face. The passing buildings triggered memories of my brother, like the times we'd count them for fun.
Tears welled up uncontrollably, and Xavier, sensing my anguish, pulled over, offering comfort. "It's going to be alright, Calvin," he reassured me. "No, it's not – my only brother is gone," I sobbed. "How about we grab a bite to eat?" Xavier suggested. "Can we go for Korean food?" I requested. And so, we found ourselves dining at a Korean restaurant half an hour away.

CalvinIn the following days and weeks, I strived to divert my thoughts from my brother, burying myself in my studies. Keeping in touch with Xavier became challenging post-funeral, as he was preoccupied with his own obligations. With my grades slipping, I knew I had to refocus and work harder.

XavierUnlocking Calvin's front door with the spare key, I found him asleep on the kitchen counter. Admiring his peaceful expression, I carefully moved him to bed, tucking him in before settling beside him. "Xavier," Calvin mumbled sleepily. "Yes?" I responded. "I love you," Calvin whispered. "I love you too," I replied, planting a gentle kiss on his forehead as we drifted off.
An hour later, unable to sleep, I left Calvin's side to have some warm milk. "Xavier, why are you awake?" Calvin asked. "Can't sleep," I admitted. "And you?" I inquired. "Just checking on you," Calvin said softly. Wrapping him in a hug, I reassured him. Chuckling at our hungry stomachs, we decided on take-out. Enjoying burgers and fries while watching TV, we found solace in each other's company.
