"Why is it that you always end up injured somehow?"
"It's just a flesh wo - Ow! Could you take it easy?"
Kai shot him a look from where he was crouched beside him. Taehyun was sitting on a chair in the living area of a well-decorated apartment. Kai had placed a chair in front of him and immediately rested Taehyun's leg on it so he could get a better look at his friend's wound.
"What I'm confused about is why you bolted into a collapsing building."
Taehyun's eyes flickered briefly before he shrugged casually, dismissing the lingering concern for Haneul's wellbeing.
"Couldn't let someone die."
"Nah," Kai immediately countered. "There's something more."
"Something more than not wanting someone to die in a fire we set?"
The blond hummed in agreement as he retrieved a sterile cloth and began wrapping the older thief's elevated calf.
"This is the first heist where you seem to be extremely fascinated by a random guard."
"Her name's Hane — " Taehyun quickly corrected himself. But what he said instead was actually even more incriminating in Kai's eyes. "She's not just some random guard. She's... different."
Kai raised an eyebrow, finishing up the makeshift bandage on Taehyun's leg.
"Different? How?"
Taehyun hesitated, a rare moment of vulnerability flickering across his features.
"I don't know. There's something about her... something that caught my attention. It's not just the typical adrenaline rush of a heist. There's a connection, a pull. I can't explain it."
Kai regarded him with a mix of skepticism and concern.
"You've never been one for emotional attachments, Tae. Are you sure you're not just caught up in the chaos of the moment?"
Taehyun sighed, looking out of the window as if searching for answers in the city lights.
"I don't know, Kai. It's just a feeling, like I've crossed paths with her before, or we're entangled in some twisted fate... I don't know. Ignore me. It's probably just the remnants of the smoke messing with my head."
Kai shook his head, a baffled expression crossing over his features as he collected the medical supplies and stood up. "Yeah. There's definitely some sort of smoke damage. Because what the absolute hell are you even on about?"
The blue-haired thief stared at him incredulously, mouth hanging open, a sharp retort on the tip of his tongue. However, before he could voice his indignant complaint, the younger cut him off; he opted to change the topic.
