Sabrina
The silhouettes started to move away, from the front door to the metallic grey car parked outside the garage.
"Please don't go, I promise I will be a good girl!"
They didn't look back, let alone answer.
I screamed with my hoarse voice, legs desperately trying to run towards them. Instead, my hands could only reach out to a certain distance while my body fought back a pair of strong hands that gripped my shoulders tightly.
"Mummy, daddy, please. Please give me one more chance!"
The neighbour's car tyre screeched to a halt which caused me to jolt up from the bed. The digital clock beside me projected the time in red liquid crystal font- 06:37.
I took a deep breath of the chilly early summer morning air and relaxed my muscles to lean my upper back against the bed board.
I stared blankly at my study table, my closed laptop with a few books piling up beside it, afraid to shut or even blink my eyes.
I enjoy sleeping and I always spend my leisure time under my cosy comforter, going to the land of Nod. However, the pasts never allow me to sleep peacefully, constantly reminding me of its existence by letting me relive them almost every day or night.
I gulped down the entire bottle of water on my nightstand, trying to cool down my hot blazing throat because the air didn't do the trick.
Today was the first day of junior year and I was already in a complicated mess. Not physically but mentally. Something I couldn't fix with my hands.
I got up and took a shower, changed into a graphic tee and jeans, and made myself toast with jam while listening to a podcast so I do not brood over my nightmare.
The house was quiet with all curtains drawn. I despise the silence that permitted my brain to amplitude its voice so I swiftly grabbed my school essentials and escaped.
I focused on the landscapes, cars, houses, and anything but my own thoughts.
15 minutes of bus ride suddenly felt like an hour. I tried to convince myself that the traffic lights did not cooperate even though that statement was total bullshit.
A new scene, a fresh nightmare, Sabrina. I winced at the voice that sounded like a whisper in my ear.
Luckily, my eyes caught sight of the school in a distance. I hit the 'stop' button and ran there as fast as my legs could take me.
The school hallway was crowded with people talking, laughing and hugging each other. My eyes wandered around until I found the brunette wavy mid-back length hair girl standing in front of her locker, stuffing books into her school bag.
"Hey, Colette!" I called out and ran towards her, hands waving in the air.
"Happy first day of junior year!" she exclaimed and dropped her bag on the floor to hug me.
Her sweet Egyptian lily scent entered my nostrils as I hugged her back.
"What's your first class?" I asked as I pulled back.
"Chemistry. Why is your hair so messy?"
I looked at my own reflection using the mirror hanging in Nicolette's locker. My hair was tangled and unkempt. "Ah, shit." I cursed as I tried to fish out a comb from my bag but ended up not finding it.
"I have a spare one. Here." Nicolette took out a comb from her makeup bag sitting on her locker shelf.
"You're a lifesaver." I smiled while tidying my coal-black hair.
