30 | money, power and lies
"You know, your girlfriend's family is seeming to create a lot of problems for us, Kook," was the first thing Taehyung said to him later that day. The four of them were having dinner at some high-end restaurant in a private dining room with guards outside. He had just gone over the paperwork Namjoon gave him about the cop when Taehyung handed him another folder.
"What's this?" Jungkook asked as he looked over the documents.
"That are property agreements," Jin said pointing to a section, "Looke like all the neighborhoods around here are about to go under major construction. Some secret buyers have been buying pretty much every piece of land available."
"How do you know this?" He asked. Jin sighed, "Some of the people we do business with are being bought out. Something tells me your father-in-law has big plans coming soon. His name isn't on the contract for buyers but there's a bunch of made up aliases on here that just seem to be brushed under the rug. If they're buying properties on this side of town, I don't think they want people knowing about it."
Jungkook looked at him, "You think he's involved in some dirty business?"
"Oh we know it," Taehyung said, "Remember a couple years ago when a secret buyer practically bought out an entire neighborhood in Busan to put up all these huge apartment complexes? It didn't make sense, it was a low-income area but all the rent around there shot up because of it. They claim it's raising the value of those areas."
"Yeah but didn't some shit go on down there? It's like a ghost town now."
"Yeah, they found laundered money being kept in one of the buildings," Namjoon said, "They never found the original buyer so they couldn't charge anyone. The whole place was basically demolish but just recently someone bought it all off and now there's talk of some new buildings being put up instead. I'm starting to wonder if it's the same thing."
"What does this have to do with Lee Development?" Jungkook asked even as he looked at the new document Taehyung handed him which clearly revealed Aerin's family company displayed as the new buyers.
"So he's buying up all these places under false names but now he's coming forward about this one? Why?"
"Money," Taehyung said with a shrug, "Just last year some contracting company went bankrupt and the CEO got arrested for all these offshore accounts and it turns out he was hiding the money to avoid paying taxes on it. Basically he was stealing money and refusing to log it in. It was all over the news for a bit but a month later the guy just completely disappeared and the articles were taken down. We found out one of the main investors for his company were Lee Development and Choi Architecture."
"My guess is they're building money houses and the cops are protecting them, I just don't know why," Jin finally said, "Now they're going to try and do it here but they must know we control majority of the business here and they want to get us out of the way. You basically gave them an easy way to do that when you got involved with Aerin."
