Maggie>>
Skyler looked at me dumbfound.
“Hey Maggie.”
“Umm what are you doing here?”
Skyler looked down at Hayley and got her attention.
“She needs to do an assignment about people helping the community and I thought the orphanage would be a great place since they help out children. She only has a couple of questions, it won’t take long.”
Was he serious? His right here in front of me, not even asking me why I’m here, maybe he suspects that I work here.
“Umm sure what questions do you need answered?”
I saw Hayley grab my hand and lead me to a little table.
She was adorable.
After half an hour of helping Hayley and answering questions I didn’t realise that parents had come for the meeting.
They know I don’t work here. They know me as an orphan.
“Umm you have to go.”
Skyler’s smile turned into a frown.
“How come?”
“Yeah Maggie, how come? I want to hear more stories.”
“I have things to do, and knows not the best time I’m sorry.”
‘Come on Hayl’s we have taken Maggie away from her work she need to get back.”
“Aww okay, thank you for helping me.”
A smile lit up on my face.
“You’re welcome anytime, and I don’t work here.”
I slapped my hand over my mouth, how could have I let that out? He is going to ask questions and never give up.
“You don’t work here? Then what are you doing here?”
Skyler was seeking answers out of my eyes, I could feel it.
“I mean yeah I work here, but I’m not working today. I just umm help yeah I just help around sometimes on my day’s off.
Skyler slowly nodded.
“Okay well we will let you get back to helping out, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
I nodded and walked them out when the parents came through the door.
I was chanting to myself. Please don’t say I’m an orphan, please don’t say anything.
I got them out the door when the lady spoke.
“Oh you must be-“
I quickly shoved Skyler out the door and shut the door in his face as the lady said.
“The teen orphan.”
“Yeah I am, let me just get Mary for you.”
“Thank you dear.”
I walked into the kitchen and saw Mary lean up against the bench.
‘He likes you, you can see the way he looks at you. But I don’t understand why you shoved him out and slammed the door in his face.”
