I tossed and turned all night knowing that something bad has happened.

The gut feeling and the nerves.

I jumped out of bed and walked down stairs to get a glass of water.

I heard a voice while I was descending the stairs. I think it was Greg.

“No you listen to me, I have him wrapped around my little finger, I will take him away from his family just like I did with his wife. Then I’ll get rid of the son and put poor little Hayley in the towns orphanage just like I did with I must say gorgeous Maggie whose looking more and more like her mum every day, she’s 18 next month so I can finally have my fun with her.”

He spoke just above a whisper so I could hear every word he said.

He took mum, and took her god knows where. I need to tell dad.

I quietly went back upstairs backwards just in case he saw me, but thank god he didn’t.

I laid on my bed going over what I had heard. He has a secret, a secret that is pulling my family apart, maybe even more.

But one thing bugged me, he said Maggie’s name.

When Greg had left me speechless on the side of the road I couldn’t help but cry.

I walked back to the orphanage with my head down low. I know he’ll come back looking.

I needed to get out of here. And fast!

 The next 3 weeks went fast, keeping my eye out for Greg at any sudden moment.

Skyler tried getting my attention but avoided it as best as I could, I knew I was being mean but I can’t get into any more trouble.

I felt bad for ignoring him, he was being a good person, bit his just too good for me.

Before I knew it was the last day before winter break. I walked in to maths and took m seat at the back watching everyone else file in his or her seats.

I was zoning in and out until I heard my name be called.

“Maggie?”

“Yes sir”

“Go sit next to your partner for the winter break.”

I was boggled, partner? What for?

“And who’s my partner?”

Everyone turned and looked at me if I was crazy, the girl in front of me sent me a warming smile before talking.

“Maggie, your partner is Skyler, but stay away from him cause his mine got it?”

When I heard the name Skyler my insides did some flippy thing, I never felt that before.

I got out of my seat and walked across to Skyler’s desk and sat down.

“Okay so class discuss the assignment and I will get back to you”
