~Deathbringer~
I did eventually find a station alongside a highway. When I pushed through the double doors, a bell rang from above the doors. There were a few other people there, impatiently sitting in chairs. Two females sat behind a desk, busily typing as they talked to this tall man first.
Water dripped from my soaked hair and pants. I was cold, too, since I wasn't wearing a shirt, but my entire family could die if I didn't get them help that very moment.
"Excuse me," I said, slightly staggering forward as I made my way toward the desk.
One of the females looked away from the man and said, "Sir, you must wait your turn like everyone else." She eyed me curiously. "There are dry towels in the closet over there." The other female with heavy makeup turned to look at me as well as the man turned around. He was the same height as me, but a bit scrawny, and his face was covered, so I didn't get a good view of him.
"I'm sorry for interrupting you," I apologized to the man before turning to the females, "but this is urgent."
"I'm sure it is," said the one with heavy makeup on. She eyed me from head to toe, unsubtly checking me out. "The absence of your shirt says it is."
"I'm serious," I said desperately.
"Why are you all wet?" the more serious one asked, who didn't have as much makeup. "Where are you coming from?"
"The ocean," I said, totally serious. The one with makeup scoffed, rolling her eyes but she bit her lip. "Please. I have an infant and a toddler who are dying from hypothermia. They need urgent help. Please."
The females glanced at each other, having a conversation with their eyes before the more serious one turned to me. "Alright," she said, scooting closer to her own computer and began typing. "Is there just an infant or a toddler? Or do you have a wife? How many other people are there?"
"Seven," I said. The more serious one stopped typing to glance up at me with raised eyebrows. "Big family," I explained. The one with heavy makeup turned back to the other man, but I still occasionally caught her looking at me.
"How many of those people do you think have hyperthermia?" she asked, glancing at her computer screen before back up at me.
"Probably all of us," I said.
"Including you?" she asked, and I very slowly shook my head. She typed for a moment before speaking again. "Alright, I'm going to need the name and age of everyone there."
"My wife, her name's Glory and she's 35 years old," I said, going through a list in my head. "Nightfall, 16, Ember, 16, and Jade, 16."
"Oh, they're triplets?" she asked, typing on her computer.
"Yeah," I said, a little quietly. And two of them pretty much hate me. "I have an eight-year-old son named Python. The toddler's Clover and she's three, almost four. My infant is Lilly. She's three months now."
"Congrats on the newborn," the lady said with a nod.
"Thanks," I said, leaning forward on the counter. There was a moment of silence as the lady busily typed, her eyes scanning down her screen.
"The best I can do for you is an ambulance to drop you off at the hospital," the lady said, slightly nodding. "It should be here in about 15 minutes. But you'll need to bring the rest of your family here. Can you do that?"
"I can," I said, letting out a relieved sigh. "Thank you. I'll be right back." I turned and left the station, the bell ringing as I opened the door. The freezing cold air of the night sky surrounded me once again. I could see from the far east a bit of sunlight as morning came.
