Watching them walk away was almost enough to make me start drinking again, but I managed to refrain from it. At first, I was relieved that I'd at least have Cosmo to keep me company, but then I remembered how boring Cosmo could be and that he slept most of the time, anyway.

Alright, so how hard can this be? Alone for a few weeks and two armed men to worry about. Piece of cake.

I found myself calling Glory ten minutes later, longing for her already. Although, she couldn't answer because of what I assumed was no signal. It was agonizing to know that she would soon be across the world and that I'd be away from her for such a long time. It was still late at night, and I was going to go to sleep when there was a pounding at the door.

I scrambled off of the couch, slipping and nearly falling as I reached for my gun. Righting myself, I eyed the door suspiciously. They're both armed. Remember that, but don't let them see the gun.

I cautiously walked toward the door. There was another pound and then someone wailing on the other side. I stopped, my eyebrows shooting up in astonishment. It sounded like a woman.

I ran forward and opened the door. To my surprise, Mrs. Sundown stood at my doorway, a long cloth wrapped around her. She was crying and shaking from the cold. She lifted part of the cloth up to her mouth, coughing.

"Can I... help you?" I asked, curiosity filling my waking thoughts.

She sniffled. "C-can I stay here for the night?"

I sat on the opposite side of the couch from Mrs. Sundown, my arms crossed as I stared at her, inspecting her from head to toe. I had debated on whether or not I should help her out since she was my arch nemesis and everything, but then I decided that it would be the right thing to do.

She hadn't looked at me once. Instead, she wrapped the cloth tighter around herself and kept her gaze pinned to the floor, sniffling.

"Where's... the rest of your family?" Mrs. Sundown asked quietly, tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear.

"Out," was my blunt response. The smaller the Sundowns knew, the better. Also, a part of me still believes it was her who sent the men. Speaking of which, where are they? Did they decide not to come after all, or do they know Glory and the kids left and decided not to bother trying?

"Are you going to tell me what happened?" I asked skeptically, leaning back against the couch. "I think I deserve to know if you're going to be staying here for the rest of the night."

Mrs. Sundown winced, looking down at her hands. "My husband and I got into a big fight," she murmured. "He kicked me out. We're getting a divorce."

Oh. I blinked at her for a moment. A divorce? After all they've done together to make my life miserable? Interesting. "I'm... sorry to hear that," I slowly said, awkwardly looking at the roof. "Um... what was the fight about?"

"You, actually," Mrs. Sundown said. This time, she stared at me straight into my eyes.

I blinked at her. "Me? Why? I didn't do anything aside from breaking into your house and interrogating you, but that's it."

"Well..." Mrs. Sundown hesitated before saying, "It's a secret. Can I whisper it to you?"

"We don't have any cameras in here... OK," I said when she got up and walked over to me anyway. "Um," I said as she leaned in close to my ear.

"I..." she whispered, and then I lost consciousness.

My head was pounding and my back was pressed against hard metal. I groaned, rubbing my head before hearing a distant clattering sound as voices came through. I felt something laying on my stomach as I painfully shifted. Everything just hurt.
