~Glory~

No. No, no, no.

I failed. They're all going to die. It's all my fault. I should've stayed. I should've been better.

Python's widened eyes met mine, and the look of horror on his face was almost enough to make me want to die.

"Mom–" he choked out but was cut off by Clearsight covering his mouth with one of her hands.

"Let him go," I said fiercely, my voice shaking just a little bit.

"So you're the one and only wonderful Glory?" Clearsight mused, eyeing me. "You certainly haven't gotten prettier, that's for sure."

"Don't hurt him," Deathbringer said, coming up from behind me. Clearsight turned her gaze to him, her eyes narrowing. "Please, Clearsight. I know what I did was wrong, but don't take it out on Python. He's barely lived yet. He's just a kid."

"Well, maybe I'll hurt you just as badly as you hurt me," she said with a careless shrug. "My friends betrayed me, so there's nothing left worth living for. And you," she shot me a dangerous glare, "you're the reason why I have to do this."

"Why do I feel like psychopaths are always weirdly attracted to these two specific people," Winter mused aloud, eyeing Deathbringer and me.

Python squirmed under Clearsight's grasp, causing Clearsight to press the gun harder against his temple.

"Py, don't move, okay?" I said in a soothing voice that would help his fear die down. "You're going to be okay–everything's going to be fine."

"What do you want in order to spare his life?" Deathbringer asked, taking another step forward. I saw his hand inch toward his gun.

"There's nothing I want from you now other than revenge," Clearsight hissed. "And don't try using your gun, Deathbringer. My gun is already cocked and it'll take you at least a second to cock yours and then aim–which is long enough for me to just shoot the life out of this poor child."

As much as Deathbringer and I didn't want to believe it, she was right. Weapons were useless at the moment.

"You're horrible," Lynx breathed angrily. "Let him go. Don't ruin an innocent child's life."

Clearsight didn't pay her much attention. "Well? Are you going to say your last goodbyes or am I going to have to kill him while you're still speechless?"

"You don't have to hurt him," I quickly said, forcing myself not to meet Python's teary eyes.

"No, but I certainly want to," Clearsight snorted. "And I have to do this quickly before Darkstalker or Fathom tries to stop me, so stop wasting my time and hurry up."

She wants to see Deathbringer beg, I realized, to see him desperate–perhaps how Clearaight was when she tried to keep the relationship going. She had probably begged and begged, but Deathbringer ended up stomping over her heart anyway, so now she wants to do the same.

Oh, Deathbringer, you idiot.

"Take me instead," I said, getting desperate, too. "Don't kill him. Please don't. Kill me instead." Deathbringer's head snapped toward me, but I ignored him. "Aren't you mad at me because I married him?"

"Time's out," Clearsight grumbled, her finger running up to the trigger. Python let out a choked sob, knowing what was coming.

At that moment, Deathbringer lunged forward, faster than a snake, and knocked the gun out of her hands. It clattered onto the floor, a stray gunshot firing, thankfully nowhere near any actual people.
