{Levi's POV}

The steam floated in the evening breeze while the fallen Titans dissipated all around me.
My heart was heavy at Mercy's words, but it was heavier from my own.
I didn't give her a chance to explain herself before coming at her with fire, and I knew deep down that she was right for what she'd done, but as Section Commander I had to scold her for it.
I agreed with her that we should've stepped in to help, but she moved so quickly that my squad wasn't able to join her without possibly getting their own heads cut off. I ordered everyone to stay back, but came out of the woods ready to take control of the situation if she faltered in any way.
I was going to take down the Titan that was ready to pounce after Jean, but then she appeared in the sky and left me with an image I'd never forget.
The leaves of the trees fluttered around her after she emerged from them, and the sun created a golden lining around her body.
She truthfully looked like an angel coming down from the heavens.

She was right to get on me about just standing and watching her do all of the work, but the sad truth was that I couldn't look away

She was right to get on me about just standing and watching her do all of the work, but the sad truth was that I couldn't look away.
I cursed myself up and down for it because as a captain and a soldier I swore an oath to never let my own feelings get the best of me, yet there I stood starstruck before a herd of Titans with no ability to fight them because my eyes couldn't leave the sight of her.
I'd never seen someone move so fast, and so efficiently. She was faster than me in every way, and I was still processing that fact.
Footsteps approached, and I knew it was Hange before they was by my side.
"Let's take a walk to scope the area," they said quietly, but sounded concerned.
I nodded as I stared straight ahead and we made our way through the steam filled air and into the carnage.
It was all so disgusting.
Piles of Titan goop and flesh were everywhere, and the steam that radiated off of them had the most rancid smell a person could imagine.
"Levi," Hange began after we were out of earshot, "We need to talk about Mercy."
I stepped over a pool of blood and looked at them.
"Kind of assumed that's why we're out here in this mess," I scrunched my nose as steam blew into my face.
We finally made it to the other side of the destroyed herd of Titans just before the hill dropped down. The sun was setting, and far away Titans could be seen just aimlessly wandering. They posed no threat, but the sight of them ruined the view.
