The crowds were overwhelming, thousands came to view the spectacular of the newest ocean liner from the White Star Line, Titanic.  Titanic has been the talk among the papers for months.  Her size and her luxury were unmatched and the press even labeled the magnificent ship "Unsinkable."  Many of the worlds elite were boarding this beauty as First Class passengers, with even more boarding in Third Class for a chance to start anew in America.  Titanic was docked in Southampton and would be leaving this day to start her journey cross the Atlantic Ocean towards New York.  Some of the better known names include John Jacob Astor, who is traveling back home from his extended honeymoon with his pregnant wife, 18 year old Madeleine Astor.  Another man among the wealthy First Class passengers is Benjamin Guggenheim, a businessman from America.

Joining First Class was 21 year old Lily Adams.  Lily was a member of a very prominent aristocratic family from London.  The Adams' family were spread out amongst Parliament, lawyers, and even some Earls.  Lily was the second child for her parents, George and Dorothy Adams, but their only daughter.  Her parents were disappointed when Lily was 18 and still not yet married, or even courting a gentleman.  Not just any gentleman, a man with a title.  Lily wanted to be married one day, but she wanted to become an accomplished author beforehand.  Lily's entire family was appalled that the young woman had dreams beside being wed and having as many children as she could create.  So, behind Lily's back, her parents arranged a match for her in America.  They sacrificed their requirement of 'Title', but the man came from a family of multi-millionaires who ran a very large and very successful coal company.  Now, Lily and her family were traveling First Class on Titanic so that Lily could meet her fiancé.  Now, the whole family traveled from Long to Southampton.  The Adams family had to ride in two cars to arrive at the dock to board the ship.  In one car was Lily, her mother, and her older brother, George junior.  In the second car was Lily's father and younger brother, John, plus the family's valet.

Once the cars arrived, the drivers immediately stepped out and opened the car door for Lily and her family.  "Miss.." the driver respectfully greeted Lily as he held his hand out to her. Lily took his hand and scrambled out of the car, eager to get some distance between her and her brother, who would be chaperoning her while with her fiancé in New York. Lily looked up at the looming ship. Steam bellowed out of three of the four smoke funnels, causing the noise of the people and cars bustling around disappear. Lily felt her chest tighten in fear, her breathing increasing. Her palms felt sweaty even as she had cold chills spread across her body. Lily had a terrible fear of the ocean. She panicked at the idea of not being able to see any land. She didn't even want to think about the pitch blackness at night. "Mother, please don't make me get on the ship." Lily begged as she grasped on to her mother's arm, sounding like a little child. "We wouldn't be here if you had married at 18 like every other girl at your school." Dorothy sneered. Lily's heart sank in her stomach. She had minimal hope left that her Mother would do the right thing and back out of this decision, but Dorothy just shattered that dream.
