Charles Lightoller stirred awake and felt as if the weight of the world was on his chest.  All the memories of the night flooded his brain, his narrow escape from death.  He would be forever thankful for managing to grasp onto the overturned boat, or else he knew he wouldn't be returning home to his wife and sons.  Charles turned over in his bed and saw Harold and Lily on the other bed.  They were both still sound asleep.  Harold's arm was draped across Lily's body as if he were protecting her from danger.  Charles smiled to himself, the couple having reminded him a lot of himself with his wife.  Charles knew the two would do fine as a married couple, that sometimes things didn't have to make sense for everything to fall perfectly in place.

Harold awoke and saw his senior officer staring at him.  Harold looked down and saw Lily's face tucked into his chest as she slept on.  Harold looked back up at Charles and cracked a small grin.  "I prefer waking up to her face." Harold whispered.  Charles snickered and sat up in his bed, glancing at his watch.  It was already going on 6 o'clock in the evening.  "Did that awful family of hers survive?" Charles asked, throwing the blanket back and standing up to dress.  Harold retold the story to Charles, who just shook his head as he listened.  "So out of the whole family, the one who actually cared about her was the one to die.  Go figure." Charles scoffed.  Harold tried to sneak out of bed but the movement woke Lily in a panic.  "Where are you going? What's wrong?" Lily immediately started asking as she gripped Harold's arm.  Harold shushed her and rubbed her back.  "Nothing, my love.  Nothing is the matter.  We were just about to go find some dinner.  Why don't you come with us?" Harold asked her.  Lily looked over at Charles as he gave her a polite, yet sympathetic smile.  Tears came to Lily's eyes.  She'd be going to dinner and John wasn't there to accompany her.  Nevertheless, Lily knew starving wouldn't bring her brother back so she just nodded and Harold got dressed before helping Lily out of bed and wrapping her up in his coat.

Once in the dining room, Charles split away from the couple to go take a list at the current survivors list to see the crew who had survived.  "I'll go and grab us some food, my love.  Just sit and relax." Harold gestured towards the chair behind Lily.  Lily sat and Harold gave her head a kiss before walking away.  Lily looked to see who had seen but then it dawned on her that they are both technically passengers now.  Lily sat in silence for only a few moments before she saw another familiar face.  Lily gasped softly when she saw how broken the woman was, an empty look in her eye as a stewardess held her as they walked.  Lily stood up and walked over to the two women.  "Rose?" Lily called out.  Rose looked up at Lily and tears formed in her eyes.  "Lily... I'm sorry for everything I said yesterday on that ship.  I'm sorry." Rose squeaked out, as if she hadn't talked all day.  Lily gave Rose a hug and rubbed her back.  "Your officer saved me from the water.  I will always be thankful for him." Rose said before turning away, overcome with emotion.

Lily saw Harold come back with two bowls of food in his hand.  "Who else did you save with Rose?" Lily asked him as they sat back down.  Harold sighed, not wanting to discuss the horror of those waters again.  But he knew how persistent Lily was.  "No one.  I was about to call off the search when we found her.  She was blowing on a whistle.  She pulled it out of some dead blokes mouth.  She had been the last." Harold answered.  Lily did some thinking but Harold interrupted her thoughts as if he was reading them.  "He wasn't with her.  If I had to guess by her behavior and how numb she was when boarding, her third class gentlemen didn't survive." Harold confirmed her thoughts.  Lily picked at her food and shook her head.  "How many died?" Lily asked.  Harold couldn't stop his mind from seeing the mother and her baby, frozen dead in the ocean.  "Hundreds.  I saw them all." Harold told her.  Lily decided to end the conversation there and eat her food.  She couldn't begin to imagine what Harold saw when he went back to find survivors.  She wanted to bring some peace to his mind.  She wanted to give him something to look forward to.  "Are we really getting married once we dock in New York?" Lily asked with a smile on her face.  Harold smiled as well and took a sip of tea.  "How can I not marry the insane woman who jumped back onto a sinking ship to be with me?" Harold asked rhetorically.  Lily giggled and took his hand in hers.
