Jeremy kept the last bag in the car, ready to leave. I hugged mom and dad goodbye wishing them a safe journey over the seas. I don't remember spending even one summer without my parents. Jeremy is used to it, he hasn't spent summers with us since two years now. But, my parents really seemed happy about this trip now that both their children were settled in great colleges, and I fuelled into their excitement, wanting them to be happy. Me and Jeremy were going to the vacation house our parents have, to which we used to go in summers all the time, but its just me and Jeremy now.
"C'mon Nat! They aren't leaving us forever, you'll meet them soon. Stop being a child." Jeremy screamed from the driver's seat. I hurried into the car after saying one last goodbye to mom and dad. "I'm not being a child, I just love my parents unlike you." I said to Jeremy while putting on the seatbelt. "Yeah, yeah." Jeremy mocked me.
We had been driving since five hours when Jeremy stopped at a McDonald's Drive thru to pick up lunch. After having lunch, Jeremy started driving again. "So, Nat..." Jeremy said in his 'I didn't tell you but' tone. "What?" I replied sipping on my Coke. When Jeremy didn't continue I spoke again, "What?! Tell me." He raised his eyebrows and said in a low voice, " My friends are also coming to stay at my house this summer."
"WHAT?! Jeremy!" I yelled, "Why did you not tell me this before?" I questioned, angry at him. He frowned and said, "Because if mom knew you'd be living with me and my friends, she'd have made me cancel all the plans." I scoffed, knowing that was true but still. "Are these the friends you were with when you drunk texted me?" I asked, remembering when Jeremy drunk texted me a video of him kissing some girl and there were his friends cheering behind the camera. Jeremy nodded, answering my question.
"Oh my god Jere! You are such an idiot." I said, frustrated by him. "How many of your friends will be staying?" I asked him. "Two.." he said, narrowing his eyes playfully. "Two?" I asked, reconfirming. "Four..." he said, slowly turning his head towards me. "Four?!" I practically shouted. "Five, actually." he finally said. "Jere just take me back home please." I said, "I cant live among six boys, five of them being strangers." I was really angry with Jeremy. "I can't. We've already reached." Jeremy announced just as I realized the car had come to a stop. "I hate you." I said to him.
"Oh, c'mon Nat. It won't be that bad, you might actually enjoy yourself for the first time among real people instead of fictional ones. And anyhow, Nick would be there, and to be honest, they will all love you, you'll practically blend in with us." Jeremy said trying to convince me. "What do you mean blend in?" I asked, feeling it wasn't exactly a compliment. "Well.." he paused and then continued, "You aren't exactly a girlie-girl." raising an eyebrow. "Care to elaborate?" I asked in a cold tone, crossing my arms across my chest, fully facing him now.
"I mean, Nat, c'mon, you aren't like other girls. You dont dress up or go to parties. You play video games and read books." Jeremy said, raising and then dropping his shoulders. I scoffed at his rude as hell comment. "Forget it, Jeremy. Start the car or do you want me to drive?" I said, turning around. "Stop being so stubborn, Nat. My friends are already inside." he said. "Oh, really? I dont care." I replied, not giving up. "For once, Nat, listen to me. It's not going to be that horrible." he said, still trying to convince me. I shook my head and he continued speaking, "Think about mom and dad, they'll have to come back from their trip. Do you want that? Do you want to ruin their vacation and mine?" he said, knowing I would have to agree now. "Fine!" I spat in his face.
He smiled and left the car to take out the bags. I sighed slowly stepping out of the car as well. I helped Jeremy unload the bags, all the while thinking about what Jeremy said. He wasn't wrong. I'm not the kind of girl who would dress up to go to a party. I wear oversized hoodies and straight fit jeans, that's what I am wearing right now. I rolled my eyes, pushing Jeremy's rude comment at the back of my head.
"Nervous?" Jeremy asked me before ringing the bell. I scoffed and said, "You wish." and pressed the bell before him. I could hear multiple footsteps running towards the main door. The main door flew open and the first person in front of me was a tall, slender, long haired boy, Nick. I've known Nick since forever. Me, him and Jeremy used to play together all the time until they both went off to college. We've met frequently since then.
Nick pulled me into a long hug screaming my name. I laughed and hugged him back. I saw three more guys standing behind Nick, greeting Jeremy. Nick pulled away and dragged me towards the other guys. "Guys, this is Natalie, Jeremy's sister and also our chief guest." Nick said and I laughed at his comment about me being the chief guest. One of the guys, who looked Asian, with black hair set in place, moved forward and introduced himself, "Hi, Natalie. I'm Lee Jae-Sung, call me Jay." he said, in a british accent. "Nice to meet you Jay. I feel like I have seen you somewhere." I said when I realized his face looked familiar. A grin put up on his face as he said, "You've probably seen me on a magazine cover or something." flexing. All the other boys groaned, "Yeah, yeah, we know Jay. get over it." The boy with blonde hair said, said. I laughed.
"I am Atlas." the guy with blonde hair said and shook my hand. I smiled and nodded at him.
"And I am Alex." the guy with the chiselled face moved forward. "Has anyone ever told you how pretty your eyes are?" he said. I raised my eyebrows leaning backwards, "So I have been told." I replied, impressed by his boldness.
"Hey!" I heard Jeremy's stiff voice near the staircase, "No hitting on my sister." he said and Alex moved backwards raising his hands but before turning to face Jeremy, he winked at me. I shook my head, internally regretting for listening to Jeremy.
"Nat, I've kept your bags upstairs in your room. Go freshen up we'll go out for dinner." Jeremy said and I nodded. I went upstairs to take a quick refreshing bath.
