I turned off the lights in the room after grabbing my diary, but kept the balcony lights on. I looked towards Gabriella who was peacefully asleep on my bed and then proceeded to climb on the railing of my balcony. There was a roof over the balcony floor which I climbed on, effortlessly. I was on the lower roof now, standing on the rooftiles. I walked towards the higher roof on the other side of the house. With one swift motion I lifted myself up, standing on highest roof of the house. I could see Liam sitting, watching me, from a distance. I smiled as his face lit up in the moonlight as well. I walked and sat next to him.
"Hi." he said as I sat down. "Hello." I replied.
"How are you?" he said, making small talk.
"I'm great. How are you?" I spoke.
"I'm great now." he responded, almost a whisper. I smiled as he continued to look at me with immense curiosity.
"What are you thinking?" He asked me.
"I am thinking about." I paused, looking at the sky and then said, "The moon, and the stars." He smiled at my response as if he already knew what I was going to say. I was sitting there in my white talk top and denim shorts because I didn't think it would be cold in the middle of summer, but somehow cold breezes flew and I shivered. "You didn't bring a jacket?" Liam asked me and shook my head. He took off his grey jacket and put it around my shoulders as I laughed. But it was nice, I hugged the jacket, comfortably as Liam leaned back, straightening his legs. The jacket was quite big on me, it covered my shorts and the sleeves were longer than my arms. We laughed as I played with extended part of the sleeve, shaking my hands.
"Read me more poems, will you Natalie?" he asked straight away and I nodded opening my diary and flipping through pages.
"This one is called Redemption." I said and waited for him to say something, when he didn't I started to read the poem.
"Hope may falter but, it's never too late,
To mend the wounds and rewrite my fate.
In my scars, I'll find resilience anew,
A testament of strength to carry me through.
So, hold on, dear soul, to faith's gentle thread,
Know that love awaits, just up head.
You're not alone, for I'll be right here,
In this journey of healing, banishing fear."
I finished reading the poem and flipped to another page as Liam whispered, "Love is hope?"
"I think so." I whispered back.
"What gives you the inspiration to write poems?" he asked.
"I don't know. Life? thoughts? feelings? All of it." I replied, wondering myself.
"Read me your latest poem." He said and I turned the pages of my diary realising what my last poem was.
The last poem I wrote possibly, could be, maybe, definitely is about Liam and this summer.
"No. Not the last one." I said, my face heating up.
"Why not?" he said, laughing.
"Because." I didn't say anything after that.
"Because..?" he asked, and there it was, that smirk on his face again.
"It's nothing!" I laughed, hitting him in the stomach with my elbow slightly.
"Read it, then." he pressed.
"Fine. But no assuming, judging or anything stupid, because that poem is exaggerated, most of them are." I warned and he just laughed and nodded. "This one's called Sun's embrace."
