After getting cleaned up, showered, and getting into a fresh pair of Percy's clothes, while the rest of mine are being washed, I feel better than I have in months.
When I opened the door to the bathroom, I heard him and his mom talking in the kitchen.
"So this is the girl you found on Circe's island?" Miss Jackson asked.
"Yeah," Percy responded.
"And she is a child of Hades?"
"Yup."
"Huh, she doesn't look like one." I get I don't fit the whole emo vibe that Hades had going on, but my mother taught me better than to dress in all black. She also gave me blonde hair which might be the more surprising factor of my appearance versus my lineage.
"Yeah well, she can travel through the shadows so she acts like one. But whatever. I just got an iris message from Grover saying that we need to get the kids ASAP." Miss Jackson sighed. "He told me that their scent is strong so they're kinda screwed if we wait much longer."
"Percy, this is dangerous," she told him. I can hear a bit of pain in her voice, a pain that reminds me so much of my mother telling me that we need to leave and go on a little trip across the sea.
"I know, Mom, but we have no other choice. These kids deserve a chance to live, and I will have Annabeth and Thalia with me. How much could go wrong?" He is such a fool and jinxed this whole thing so hard.
"Alright, we can leave tomorrow morning."
"Thanks, Mom." His voice is muffled, I am assuming by a hug. I hate it here. I need to leave. All this motherly love is making me sad and I don't have time to be sad right now.
"What about Emelia?" Miss Jackson asked.
"What about her?"
"Is she going with you guys?"
He laughed lightly, but the emotion behind it wasn't light at all. It was exasperated, annoyed.
"I don't know. She left months ago without saying goodbye to anyone, and then I found her in the middle of New York looking like she hadn't eaten or slept the entire time with a huge gash on her side. Then I have to argue with her that she isn't okay, and-" he stopped himself, groaning. "I don't even know what to do. I want to help her, I really do, but I don't know how."
I don't know if I should be annoyed or touched. I mean, I am no charity case that he should feel like he has to fix, but on the flip side I think he is just a caring person. I am going to go with the second one simply because I don't have the energy to be mad right now.
"She just needs someone there," his mom told him. "Just someone that she knows she can reach out to when she decides she needs it. All you need to do is be the wonderful, caring boy you are."
I think I might be in love with Sally Jackson. I am so gay for Sally Jackson. She is the best person I will ever meet.
"You're the best, you know that?" Percy said.
"I know."
"I am going to go check that she didn't run away again." I heard him get up and I ran back to the bathroom, closing then opening the door immediately.
"Oh, hey Percy," I said, acting surprised to see him there and definitely didn't know he was coming
"Hey."
