Saint Rosewater Florida, August 1998. Summer break came and went before you even knew it, and once again you were walking past the front gates of your school, no longer a freshman, but a sophomore this time.
"Jojo! Wait up!"
"Hey! Jojo!"
"It really is Jojo!"
You sighed, hearing several pairs of footsteps running up behind you. And so, it began. Neither Jaya nor Vita had met you on your way to school, so you were left to brave the strangers and fangirls on your own.
"I heard they were moving after...what happened." One of the girls murmured to someone next to her, but you still heard her comment. You stopped in your tracks and threw a glare her way. Before you could reprimand her for being rude, a boy you didn't recognize skipped up and hugged your arm.
"Jojo, wanna walk with me to class?" He asked, looking up at you innocently. You felt sick for a moment, being reminded of how Lennia used to act. Getting annoyed, you shook the boy off and sent your stalkers a warning look. You had learned to put your foot down, no longer all that worried about hurting someone's feelings since they had invaded your personal space. "Oh c'mon, it'll be fun..." The boy was moving to once again grip your arm, you cringed, preparing to slap his hands away. Thankfully, you didn't have to as someone else did it for you.
"Hands off weirdo!" The familiar but angry voice of Jaya Rossi rang across the courtyard, making everyone around you freeze. "Jojo didn't say a word about going anywhere with you so screw off!" The boy's eyes widened as Jaya flipped him off. She then offered her hand and you gladly accepted it before speed-walking away from the little scene you made.
"Thanks Jay." You sighed, looking back at the girl.
"Please, it was my pleasure." Jaya laughed slightly. "They should know by now you aren't interested..."
"Interested in what?" You asked with a raised eyebrow. Jaya looked concerned for a moment before noticing the teasing grin plastered across your face. She playfully hit your shoulder in retaliation.
"I'm sorry about being late, Julius forgot to wake me up before he went to work." Jaya explained.
"Its fine, you got here just in time." You were about to open the door to the school for your friend when you noticed another friend of yours slowly making his way across the courtyard. "Tim!" You called, waving slightly to get his attention. The boy looked up at you and nodded in greeting. He had a large instrument case in his hand, and by the way he was hobbling, you could guess it was heavy. Despite that, he was doing his best to quickly make his way toward the school's front door. "You look like you're in a hurry." You commented sarcastically. Tim rolled his eyes and set down the case he was carrying.
"I was just headed to the music room with some new equipment." Tim explained, unhooking the latched on the case to show you the cello inside. "Are you coming to the meeting after school?"
"You can count on it, you offered to teach me how to play the guitar after all." You watched Tim close the cello case before holding out your hand. "Here, let me carry that for you, it looks heavy."
"Uh-" Tim was about to decline the offer when he paused and a small smile crossed his face as he readjusted his glasses. "Yeah thanks, I would appreciate the help."
You waved Jaya goodbye so she could head to her class and picked up the cello case for Tim.
"How did designing a poster turn out?" You asked, holding the school's door open for Tim to follow you.
"Well..." Tim shied away from your gaze and frowned. "I'm not sure if I really want new people to show up to the music club..." Tim's eyes lit up. "That's not to say I don't appreciate you coming! I just...don't think I'm ready for a bunch of strangers..."
