Meet the crew

The session with Spider-Therapist is awkward. This man has only ever talked with people who's uncles have died, and he doesn't quite know what to do with me. The fact that I make jokes about the subject to lighten the mood doesn't help him.

People are expected to cry here apparently, but I'm unable to do that. No one's getting a tear out of me, because I haven't finished processing everything. I might've understood everything, but my brain is still avoiding the subject.

Spider-Therapist keeps asking questions about how I feel. And I have absolutely no idea how I feel. I should feel devastated, because you know, everything I've ever known disappeared, my family, my friends, my favorite places on earth, my cat. Everything's gone.

I can't really wrap my head around the idea of it.

And I also can't tell this man that I have a big fat crush on a Dorito shaped guy I met a few hours ago because he's probably gonna report it to him and it's gonna be very embarrassing and maybe he kicks me out of spider society.

I take a deep breath.

That's all nonsense.

So, I start asking questions to Spider-Therapist, killing time until the hour is over.

As soon as I see the clock strike six pm I'm up from my seat and out of that office.

I wander around the corridors of spider society, not really knowing where to go. I wanna go see Miguel but I'm not gonna go looking for him. It's embarrassing and I don't want to admit the fact that I'm crushing on him.

"Lyla? Who's the crew? And can I meet them now?" I ask the hologram lady.

She pops up from my watch with a smile on her face "Oh you're gonna love them, let me check if they're here so I can introduce you."

Lyla leads me back to the Go-Home-Machine room, where a girl who also looks like a hologram, although normal sized, is typing away on a floating screen.

"Margooo meet y/n!" Lyla exclaims. She tells her to introduce me to everyone else when they arrive and shrinks away into my watch.

"Hey, what's up? I'm Margo." She smiles and reaches her hand out for me to shake. My hand goes right through her and she starts laughing. "Man, it gets 'em every time!" She straightens up and looks at me a bit more seriously. "I'm an avatar, my actual body is back in my original dimension eating Fritos."

My confused face turns into an understanding one. "Ohhh" I say "Well, I'm y/n. I'm from-"

"Earth 47" she interrupts me, a pitiful look on her face. "I know what happened. I'm- I'm very sorry. If you ever wanna get out of here... I could use some friends in my dimension you know, so feel free to pop in whenever you like" She smiles at me sweetly and my eyes water a little.

Okay, maybe I can cry, but I force tears back. I'm not about to start sobbing right now.

"Thank you... so much, I really appreciate that" I say, smiling back. I don't like being pitied but she's being nice about it so I don't hold it against her.

"Hey Margo! Who's this?" I hear a voice behind us.

I turn around to see a blonde girl with a side shave, a guy in an Indian-looking suit and gorgeous hair, and the coolest dude ever carrying around a guitar.

Why is everyone here so hot??

"You guys are finally here. Meet y/n, she's a new recruit! And the first ever full time employee of the spider society."

"Oh so you're that girl from Earth 47 that's got Miguel all calm and sad!" The Indian looking dude steps forward. "I'm Pavitr, call me Pav." He shakes my hand and smiles at me.

"Yeah props to you on that one mate, I've never seen that guy so drained, I think ya made him so sad he doesn't have the energy to get mad anymore" the punk guy says in a heavy British accent. "Name's Hobie Brown, big fan of your work."

I thank him, chuckling a little. I'm very confused. "Um... why did I make him so sad?" I ask cautiously.

The blonde girl places both her hands on my shoulders in a supportive manner, and smiles at me warmly "Don't worry about it too much. Miguel had a... similar experience let's say. He's beating himself up for loosing a dimension, and he's feeling for you because, he understands exactly what you're going through." She explains in a motherly tone. "I'm Gwen by the way" she gives me a squeeze and walks back next to Pav.

"Peter was supposed to be here too but he couldn't make it. Looks like MJ finally made him keep their child at home." Margo says to all of us.

"Peter is a real nice guy, he's got a kid now so that's basically all he talks about. You'll meet him soon enough." Hobie explains.

We make a bit of small talk and they tell me things about themselves, I share some stuff too and eventually it's time for them to get back to their realities.

Hobie stays back and offers to guide me to the dorm rooms, he slings a long arm around my shoulder and begins to walk with me, asking about my opinions on capitalism and political movements.

We're pretty much on the same page about everything, and I realize I love talking to this guy. We're halfway down a corridor when I feel someone grab my arm.

"I'll take it from here Hobie, go home" he says from behind us in an authoritarian manner.

Hobie looks at me and rolls his eyes, making me giggle. "See you around then pet" he winks and does a quick 180 and strolling back the way we came.

I turn to see him leave before I finally face the Dorito man. When I lift my head, I see he has an annoyed expression, he's making a face I'm trying very hard not to laugh at.

"Come on then, I'll show you to your dorm" he says in a bit of a softer tone. He places his hand on my back to push me forward gently, and keeps the hand there the whole way, as if he let go he would loose me in the crowd of spider people.
