Hold me

I stare at myself in the mirror. My eyes are red and puffy from all the crying and my breathing is unsteady. I don't cry often but when I do, everyone can tell. Good thing I'm not gonna see anyone else tonight... I'm so tired I could just flop on the bed and sleep forever. I hum to myself as I open the door once I've changed into some simple white nightclothes that were left for me in the bathroom.

I freeze at the doorframe. Miguel is still here, or actually not still, because he's not wearing his suit anymore. He's changed into some loose gray pants and a fancy white sweater, both of an expensive-looking material. This dimension's got style.

"Hey, sorry I came back, but I forgot to mention-" he stops talking once he sees my face, swollen from crying. His expression turns to confusion and then worry, he stands there, unsure of what to do.

"Um... is this- is this a bad time? Are you okay? Of course you're not okay I don't know why I asked that" he puts his face in his hands and looks back up.

I thought I was done crying but nope, here come more tears, they fill my eyes and roll down my cheeks. I sniffle quietly, standing at the door of the bathroom still.

"Ay no-" Miguel drops his hands. He looks around the room, like he's looking for instructions on how to comfort someone.

He takes a few steps and finally reaches me, placing his hands on either side on my face, holding it and wiping a few tears away as he caresses my hair.

"Ya pasó chiquita, ya pasó" he whispers over and over.

I keep crying, I let it all out, wrapping my arms around his waist and burying my face in his chest as I sob. He holds me against him, stroking my hair. He smells like vanilla and clean clothes. I never wanna let go.

I cry for at least an hour, he holds me during all of it, eventually exhaustion gets the better of me and I fall asleep in his arms, on the floor.

I wake up in my bed early in the morning, I can tell by the light that the sun is still rising. I see Miguel sitting on an armchair in the corner of the room, he's dozed off and is breathing steadily and slowly. He even looks pretty when he's asleep. Fuck him.

Sleep pulls me back in for a few hours, until something annoying wakes me up.

It's like an alarm clock but it's calling my name?

"Y/n! Y/nnnn, Y/N!! Wake uuuuup!" It's Lyla. She's flying around me, doing everything to wake me up.

Great. These watches have built in alarm clocks. Let's see how long I can go without smashing my first one.

I rub my eyes as I stretch, looking out the window I can see it's fully morning now, the city is bustling below the buildings, people getting to work and all that. I remember where I am and look around my room.

Miguel, of course, is gone.
