Matt was still in the hospital, he's been in it for almost eight days. He would be leaving today and he couldn't wait to get back to grudgby, knowing he missed his game. Matt listened to his heart monitor while he stared at the ceiling. Him and Gus had been sharing notes back and forth. He rolled over and looked at his bed stand where a hand drawn picture of him and Gus. He's definitely not going to be an artist, but I still like it. He just wanted to leave so he could hug his boyfriend. He sat up and saw the doctor coming in, it was the late afternoon and tomorrow was his birthday. "Hey Matt, ready for your last check up? I'll start in a second but you have a visitor." Matt nodded, "Alright Doctor Kandle." He left the room as a familiar face walked in, Boscha, "Hey Matt. How do you feel?" Matt sighed, "I feel better. I'm glad you could take time out of your busy schedule to make it." He smiled smugly. Boscha began to roughly pull her bangs over her third eye. Matt squinted, "Say. What happened to your eye? Why does it have a cut?" Boscha jumped a bit, "Okay my visit is over." She left quickly. Matt shrugged it off and watched Kandle walk in again, "You ready?" Matt rolled his eyes, "Let's get this over with."

The checkup was over and the doctor told him everything was back to normal. Kandle walked over, unplugging his cords. Matt stood up as the doctor handed him his freshly washed clothes. Matt ushed the doctor from the room. He shut the door and locked it. Matt pulled his hospital gown off and put on his clothes, wrapping his fur belt around his waist and sliding his boots on. Matt unraveled his scroll and used the camera as a mirror, fixing his hair, brushing it down. Matt circled his finger, raveling the scroll up again. Matt waved at Kandle as he kindly waved back. Matt walked down the stairs to the cafeteria/waiting room. Gus was the only one here this time, "Aw Gus-Augustus, you waited every day for me. How sweet." Matt teased him as Gus looked up, "Matty!" He ran, hugging Matt tight. He winced at the burn marks and Gus quickly let go. Matt kissed Gus, catching him off guard, "I am actually surprised you care enough about me to wait every single, stupid, day." Gus lightly placed his hands on Matt's shoulders, "Well of course I would. What sane person would leave his partner alone in the hospital for a week." Matt crossed his arms stubbornly, "You are way too nice for this world." Gus laughed, "So what do you want to do for your birthday tomorrow?" Matt stood there, thinking. I kind of want to go skating but not really. Maybe an arcade? No...he looked at Gus' patient face, "How about you guys give me a tour of the Human Realm?" Gus' face lit up, "Really? You better not be doing this for me." Matt shook his head, fixing his hair again. Gus got excited, "Come on, we have to pack!" He pulled him outside towards Steve's motorcycle.

Gus and Matt had been sharing a room in the basement of the Owl House. Luz flipped on a light to the basement and looked at them in curiosity, "Whatcha guys doing?" The two boys were packing suitcases, briefly fighting over shirts, "Oh come on Gus. Yellow is my color!" Gus rolled his eyes, "Yeah I know that's why I want...to...wear IT!" He fought with Matt harmlessly. Luz walked down the stairs, brushing her hands on the webby walls, "Ew." Gus pinned Matt to the floor with one hand, and taking the shirt with the other, "Hey! We are packing to go to the human realm tomorrow. Tell the group to also pack we are going for Matt's birthday." Matt fought, trying to unpin himself, "Oh my TITAN YOU'RE WAY TO STRONG." Gus tossed the shirt to Luz, "Who do you think this shirt would suit?" Luz tossed the shirt to the side, "Neither. Come on boys let's get you fashion!"

The three looked through bags in Luz's room. Matt saw an outfit that peaked his interest, "Luz? Where did you get these?" They didn't look like demon realm clothes, "Oh yeah. I went to a thrift shop in the human realm. I got them for the group." Matt pulled out a sleeveless hoodie with baggy grey jeans. He reached down and grabbed fingerless gloves that had been knitted. Gus looked over, "Dude you would rock that outfit." Matt threw the outfit in the suitcase, "Well duh, I rock everything." He flipped his hair to Gus' eye-roll. Gus pulled out and outfit that had a green beanie, ripped jeans, a blue shirt with a green ribcage on it, and shoes called...Converse? "Look this outfit is very similar to the outfit I wore in the human realm myself!" Gus reached down and tossed Matt shoes called Vans, What in Titan are these names. Matt tossed them in his suitcase too as Luz spoke, "You two go to bed we have a big day ahead of us." Matt shrugged and walked down the stairwell with Gus. He sat down on their shared mattress. He flopped down and Gus laid his head on Matt's chest, "I'm going to be fourteen. Can you believe that?" Gus pulled the blanket on the two, "Yeah. You're getting old." Matt snickered and then watched Matt's scroll for a while until he realized Gus was asleep. Matt curled up with him, drifting off to sleep.

He woke up the next morning with Gus not being in his bed. Matt sat up, Huh...where did...he go. Matt yawned as he saw Gus coming down stairs, "Happy birthday! There's oatmeal and peanut butter on the counter." Peanut huh? "Okay...is that like a food? Or disease." Gus laughed at Matt's half asleep brain, "Hurry and get dressed." Matt shrugged and took his shirt and shorts off as Gus left the room. He pulled on the sleeveless hoodie, it was grey with a faded baseball team on it (Whatever that is) it also had no sleeves which looked torn. He pulled his baggy jeans up and put on his fingerless gloves, I look gooood. Matt smiled smugly. He raced up the stairs towards the group, which Gus saw him first, "You look so cute!" Matt blushed, "Shut up." The group ate, laughing over the most little stuff. Once everyone was done, they all grabbed their suitcases as Eda's voice rung out, "You kids ready to party?" Matt rolled his eyes as the group cheered. Everyone who was at the hospital was here (Except Vee and Masha). Eda pulled out her staff as King walked over the the whole where Hooty used to be. He placed his hand on it, turning it into a portal. Matt gasped, "Woah." Gus looked over his shoulder, "You ready to have the most awesome birthday ever?" Matt laughed and walked through the portal being lead by Gus.

Warm August air blew around him. The trees were green along with the grass. A small animal with floppy ears bounced away when the group entered it's realm. "WOAH." Camila, Vee, and Masha stood there waving at them as Luz looked at Camila, "¡Mi mamá!" She ran and hugged her Mother and Matt rolled his eyes in jealousy. Camila looked and saw Matt. She walked over, "Hey! Happy birthday! I haven't met you, Mija." Matt crossed his arms, Darling? Maybe she could be the mother figure I never had. "Oh...Yeah. I'm Mattholomule...but you can call me Matt." Camila smiled and began to lead the group into Gravesfield. Matt walked with Gus, holding his hand, Darling...I've never had an adult call me that. "Luz, why do you have so many awesome mother figures?" He heard her laugh.

The town was very active today, especially around the roller rink. Camilla looked at the group as Raine, Lilith, and Eda stepped up, "Separate into groups of two for the day. One adult can cling onto any group." As expected, the groups were just relationships. Steve was Matt and Gus' supervisor and Lilith clang with the trio. Gus looked at Matt, "So...we have to meet at the skating rink at noon so where do you want to go?" Matt's eyes darted around the town. Matt grabbed Gus' wrist, dragging him to a little fairground. Matt remembered Luz talking about that at the owl house, saying it was annual. Lilith whispered to Steve and then yelled at the two boys, "Don't do stupid stuff! We won't be watching like a hawk." Gus gave Lilith a thumbs up and the two ran into the fairground.

The human at the ticket booth sighed, "$15 for the two of you." Gus and Matt looked at each other and shrugged. The worker sighed, "Money, cash money." Gus' face lit up, "Oh like dollars! Yeah here." He handed the worker 15 slips a paper that had '1' stamped on them. The worker put the wrist bands on them and looked at Matt's ears, squinting. He pulled the beanie tightly on his head and chuckled nervously. The two boys ran off as Matt saw the worker whisper into a talking device, looking at him.
I don't know what's happening but I'll protect you Gus.
