Kyra and Claudia sit in the town hospital, patiently waiting for the doctor to come back and tell them how he is. Kyra was bouncing her leg nervously, making sure to keep her hood up so that it wouldn't be too obvious that she was an elf. She knows he's not the best person, he's done a lot of wrong, but she also sees the good in him.
The doctor walked over the two.
"Well? How long will it take for him to get better?" Claudia asks impatiently.
"He's not going to get better." The doctor spoke.
"What?" Kyra gasps.
"He won't die. He's lucky to have survived a direct attack from a dragon. But he's never going to walk again. I haven't told him yet."
"Don't. I'll tell him. He should hear it from me." Claudia turns her head away from the nurse.
"Do you want me to come with you?" Kyra asks.
"I..... yeah, I think Soren would be happy to see you."
They both walk into his room.
He looks sad, beat up, but his face slightly brightens when he sees his sister and you walk in.
"Hey Sor-Sor. All the people in town are talking about you. About how you faced the dragon and saved the town. Everyone's calling you a hero." His sister reassures him.
You both pull up a chair and sit next to him.
"Saved them from a problem I caused, maybe. Is that what hero's do?" He spoke.
"You were brave enough to try and face your mistakes, hell you were brave enough to go toe to toe with a dragon. I'd say that's pretty hero like to me." Kyra says with a smile.
He smiles back at her.
"So I..... I talked to the doctor and I guess they did some tests-"
"I already know." Soren interrupts his sister.
"What?"
"I can't move. I can't walk. And it's not going to get better." He says sadly as he looks out the bedside window, seeing kids playing in the yard.
Kyra tears up and looks away.
"You know what? It's for the best. I'm glad I can't move."
Kyra snaps her attention back to him.
"What are you talking about?" She asks.
"Soren why would you say that?" Claudia questions.
"Before we left, Dad gave me a secret mission."
Soren started.
"He did?"
"I was confused, and I didn't want to do it, but I do want dad to love me and be proud of me."
Kyra's heart aches, she hates seeing him like this.
"He is proud of you, no matter what." Claudia reassures her brother.
"Dad is so smart, so I figured there must be a good reason."
"Soren, what did your dad ask you to do?" The elf asks quietly.
"Kill the princes" he said with a look of guilt.
"Kill them? No....No. No, that can't be right. You must have misunderstood." His sister says, concerned.
"Now I can't do anything terrible, because... now I can't do anything." He says in a sad tone.
Claudia starts pacing around the room.
"It's okay, Clauds. I'm relieved, actually. I'm free to do what I want with no expectations form Dad or..... or anyone."
"So what are you gonna do with this newfound.. freedom?" Claudia asks.
"I've been thinking about that for the last ten minutes, and I've decided. I'm going to reinvent myself.....I'm going to be a poet guys!
You snort out a laugh, so does Claudia.
"You're not joking"
"I'm going to be a poet, and people will come hear my poems. They'll come visit me, and we'll drink some kind of..... soothing tea. And then.... And then, I'll say my latest poems to them."
"Soren, are you sure?" Claudia sighs.
"I already have my first poem. It's a haiku. Just, uh, tell me when you're ready."
Kyra leans closer. This should be good.
"Ready!" She say excitedly.
"Um.... Okay. Ready." Claudia fakes a smile.
Soren inhales deeply before he begins.
"Dragon smash boy. Say the good words now. They light the hearts of other people." He finishes his poem.
"Do you like it? I'm inspiring, right?" He turns to Kyra and smiles.
Claudia counts the syllables on her fingers.
"No. Soren, no. That was a terrible poem. And it.... It's not even a haiku! Oh.... I can't leave you like this. There has to be something." She rushes toward the cabinet and frantically throws the hospitals stuff everywhere.
"Um Claudia I don't think that's the best idea." You say.
"You need to calm down." The doctor rushes into the room.
"No I don't. You need to.... calm up! You need to help him!" The mage shouts.
"This is a hospital. Miss, we're going to have to assist you out of here."
"He can't be like this. He can't even count syllables!" She yells as they drag her out.
"Well uh that happened." Kyra says a bit concerned.
Soren just looks away.
" You're sister, she cares about you a lot... she just wants the best for you."
"I know..." he replied.
"Well just so you know... I liked your poem." She says smiling as she brushes the hair out of his face.
"Thank you." He says smiling, blushing a little under her touch.
