Chapter 18: Change of emotion

As if he was giving me the answer he spoke. "So um Emerald... Can you, for the sake of creating fake news for the paparazzi, go on a date with Calum?" So thats why he was so nice, so I could go on a date with my ex boyfriend, abuser and murderer?

Emerald's POV

"What? But I thought you loved me."

"Its only for the media." he chuckled. Did he just chuckle, at a moment like this? What was for the media, the date, or loving me?

"But still Luke. I can't just go on a date with Calum.

"But you said you'd pick Calum, when we were playing the game." (In chapter 5)

That seemed like so long ago. When I could still move my legs, when I thought Michael was a slob and Calum was innocent. Little did I know that Calum was Nick.

"Luke! That was a question. Can I set you on a date with Kim Kardashain?"

"Sure. As if you could talk to Kim Kardashain."

If I was any angrier, steam would have blown out of my ears. "Luke, seriously." I was too heartbroken to think of a comeback.

"Is that all you ever say? Luke this, Luke that." That wasn't a fair argument. I was dumbfounded and hurt that he said nice things to me for his own publicity.

"I am not going on a date with Calum. And if you keep this up, I won't go on dates with you either."

"Emerald, just do it or else." He screamed, loud enough to cause ringing in my ears. I momentarily shrunk back at his sudden change of emotion.

"Or else what? What are you going to do? You know there is a word for big strong men who beat up woman. Its coward." I quoted my favorite book Divergent. His eyes pierced into mine and I glared at him, despite my elevated heartbeat and my hands that were shaking in fear.

I pushed him down and he fell, not expecting the blow. He got up angrily and pressed me up against the wall.

"Why won't you go on a date? On a fake date may I add."

His minty breath on my face made it hard to think.

"Because... Because..." I couldn't just tell him that Calum is also Calum's cousin.

"Because what?" he growled.

"Because I like you and it feels unfair to go out with anyone else." I wasn't exactly sure if I should have said love.

"But I'm allowing you to."

His hands were pressing mine to the side and brought his face closer to mine so my nose was brushing against his.

I tried to find it in me to reject. "No."

Luke's POV

I tried everything. I tried to be demanding, calm and even 'nice'. She would have given up by now, but she's more stubborn that ever.

I brought my face close to hers. "Please love." Her breathing grew heavier. Seductive it is.

"Luke." She frowned.

"We need the publicity. We need the money. I mean leg surgeries do cost a lot." Her eyes softened. I should have said this before.

Guilt creeped into the pit of my stomach but I ignored it. Emerald was too nice for her own good. I was the reason she got hit by a car and she still thinks its her fault.
