Chapter 22: Calling Quits

Luke's POV

I sat at the band meeting quietly, the lack of Emerald's comfort still haunting me. 

I glared at Calum - or should I say Nick. He looked innocently at me, like he hadn't stolen my girlfirend. I wanted to know where she was, but I couldn't ask him, not in front of Michael. 

Michael knows about Ashton, but not about Calum/Nick stealing her from me. 

Ironically, Nick and I spoke simultaneously, "I can't do this."

Michael's jaw dropped as I silenced Calum and spoke again, "Without Emerald, I can't be in this band anymore I just can't deal with everything at once."

"He's right. We need to grow up. We all knew this band was going to end one day, just let that day be today." Calum smiled, but I could tell her was taunting me. 

Michael frowned. "Guys, tell me this is a joke. There are millions of fans depending on us."

Calum snickered. "And?" 

I stood up. "I'm sorry Michael, I can't work with this asshole." I pointed at him childishly.

"What are we supposed to do without a lead singer?" 

I calmed down a bit. "Look, you are just as talented as we are. Just go solo,"

Calum finished my sentence, clearly trying to piss me off. "I mean, you've always been more mentally invested in the band than we've been." 

He walked out of the studio and got into his car, Emerald sitting in the front seat. He gave her a kiss and drove off. I made eye contact with Emerald for a split second before she zipped off. 

I picked up my guitar to leave when I saw Michael crying in the corner. And I don't blame him. This band was the only thing he had, actually it was the only thing we all had until Emerald came along. She was my cure. The minute she walked into my life, it took off. I got fame, money and I never wrote a sad song ever again. And then, the minute she left, it all came crashing down. 

I placed my hand on his shoulder. Without him, I would have never met Emerald and she would have died years ago. "Look I'm sorry, I really am. Its just Emerald is with Calum now. How can I travel the world with an asshole like that?" 

He nodded and I was glad he didn't ask me to explain. "I get it, but without 5sos, we're back to having nothing. No education, no job, no life." Michael was right. We invested everything in this band and now I was giving it all up over jealousy. 

"Look, you are talented. Like I said, go solo. Just because we gave up doesn't mean you have to." 

Its funny how Emerald could make everything go from horrible to worse in minutes. 

Especially in the condition that I saw her in 5 years later.

Woah though, Luke left the band. 

The next chapter will be 5 years in the future btw.
