Luke's POV

"I want to see Emerald." I had to tell her something.

"She doesn't want to see you uh sir." Jazz tried to push me back, but I ignored her. "She's in physiotherapy. Please don't make me call security and tell them what you did to her."

"Why is she in physiotherapy?"

"I'm not-"

"Tell me or else" I didn't know what came after it.

"Or else what sir? Will you stuff marijuana up my throat?" She frowned. How did she know?

"Nevermind." Here I wasn't superior.

"Please just a minute." I asked patiently. It wasn't her fault, she was just doing her job.

"Ugh fine." She called the doctor out.

"Em. Just a minute with him. Please, call us if he bothers you" Jazz ordered. She nodded.

"Luke?"

"Hi."

"What do you want? I'm not smoking again" She was clearly scared of me.

"Why are you in physiotherapy?"

She didn't answer. I threw my hands in frustration.

"Why Emerald, why?" She still didn't answer. I grabbed her hand.

"Do not touch me Luke." she eyed Jazz, who was watching me like a hawk.

"My bad. Just answer my damn question, please."

"No."

"Answer or else you can pack your bags and find a different place to stay." I hoped this would get her to talk.

"Fine. I'll live somewhere else." Her words hit me like a gun.

"W-what?"

She shrugged, though she was obviously hurting. "I said I'll live somewhere else." Her body was trembling.

"Now, I have to get back to physiotherapy so can you leave?" I looked deep in her eyes, wondering if there were tears wanting to peek out. I could tell she regretted being so mean.

She glared at me. I didn't expect that she would say that. And the worst part is I didn't get to tell her.

Emerald's POV

Did Luke just kick me out?

I wanted to cry, but I didn't. I was partially happy to be free of his hold on me.

"Did he just freaking kick you out?"

"Y-Yeah."

Jazz looked me in the eye. "I have a place you can stay. There is this hotel for all people that have lost a limb, so you know, they can get back on their feet. Its free too. Come on I'll show you. You were due to be released in 8 hours anyway." I was so thankful people like Jazz existed. She suited her job so perfectly. Her kind nature must make the patients's heart melt.

-

Jazz's car was small but it was comforting. I always felt awkward in Luke's huge cars.

She took me to a hotel. It was plated with limestone and it was radiating heat.

Inside it was even more heavenly. It suited my every need. The elevator buttons were just at my level and every room was uniquely crafted so people like me felt at home.
