—Your POV—
"Sooo, Boss, what's the game plan huh?"
Reaper speaks into the silence of the front room, successfully shattering it. From your seat on Horror's couch, you look to him, his usual lazy grin stretched across his face.
"Let's go now." Nightmare drawls, dragging himself up from his seat on his sofa. The way trails of slime from his body stick to it suggests just how hard he was sitting. "I trust everyone has had breakfast?"
Nods and quiet agreements come from all around the room. Everyone has eaten. Good. Now they can all get out so you can do your work. It'll just be you and Lust, since he got demoted to a simple housekeeper after he insisted on staying with you, talking something about how humans need adequate company.
"Alrighty then." Reaper raises as well, most of the others rising along with him. The weight of the couch shifts as Horror gets up, sparing you a ruffle of your hair and a light kiss to your forehead before he joins everyone at the door. Your face heats at the soft affection.
"Wait, false alarm." Nightmare suddenly says, a hint of surprise in his tone as a letter appears between his slimy fingers. "Lemme read this first."
Just like that, paper is torn, and you watch from a distance as his cyan eye reads quickly over the paper, most of the others all perched over his shoulder, reading along with him. It takes a moment, but then many, many eyes look to you, and you shrink a bit, shoulders squaring.
"Wh-What!?" You finally spit, a shudder rolling through you as a wicked grin stretches across Nightmare's face. He beckons you with one bony finger and you hesitantly strut over, unease brewing in your gut.
"It's for you." He whispers, his voice close to your ear as you stand just close enough to see the letter.
It goes as follows:
Dearest Brother,
It has come to my attention that you have captured a stolen human for your own personal gain.
(There's a bit of black ink over the next few lines. You can't read them.)
I am humbly requesting that you turn them over into my hands, as to avoid any preventable conflict. I will give you as much time as I see fit. Please consider this message carefully, and bear in mind that I do not wish to harm you.
In addition to my warning, I will have you know that I will be forced to take steps toward a potential war if your terrorization of multiverses does not end. I'm serious.
I can only hope that you make the right choice.
- Dream
Wow. No. Wow.
Your eyebrows must've been to your hairline. Steps toward war? Why were you suddenly Dream's concern at all? What in the—
"Looks like someone will have to babysit you until the threat passes." Nightmare purrs, close to you. "And since I'm the only one who can match my brother..."
You tried your best to stifle the cold dread gripping you, but deep down you knew that was the only real way to ensure your safety. Horror bristles beside you, not aggravated, but worried, you assume.
"I can babysit." He offers, tone teetering on what you presume to be fear. "Don't worry boss I'll—"
"My minds made up." Nightmare said, taking you by the shoulders and leading you from the door. "Remember what happened last time you tried to spar Dream on your own?"
Horror backs down after that, looking into your eyes, expression pleading. You think you've caught a little snippet of what happened, listening to the discuss past and whatnot. Apparently Horror really wasn't doing too hot.
"I'll go ahead and put uhhh..." Slimy hands leave you standing by Nightmare's couch as he turns and looks at his men. "Error, you're in charge." He points a slimy finger in the destructive skeleton's direction. He nods.
"Shouldn't we all stay here?"
Cross speaks up, arms crossed coldly as his unforgiving glare ghosts over you. He scoffs lightly. "It'd be better for all of us to have to babysit rather than splitting up like this."
Nightmare looks to him with clear disagreement. "Someone has to go out and show Dream we're not backing down." He says, shrugging. "If we all cower around the house, he'll think we've gone soft. We don't want to give him the notion that they're that important, or that we're that easily swayed." A pang or something sour hits you, making you cut your eyes at the back of his skull.
"Plus it's really only a one man job." He adds, throwing a glance to Lust, your only comfort. "Go ahead and leave with em'. This here human has all the company they'll need." Well, there goes you comfort. You watch with desperate eyes as he pulls on his boots, before skipping over to the door with the rest of them.
"We'll be going now." Error declares, the statement clear for once. "Bye-Bye." Ok, you're not sure if that was supposed to be like that or not.
Before long, you're alone with the slimy menace himself. Nightmare looks to you with a cruel smile, and you tense. No way this was going to be any good.
"Well?" He starts, leaning in ever so slightly, and causing you to take a step back, nearly tripping over the corner of his couch. "Let's get down to business, shall we?"
With a gulp, you nod, immediately turning on your heel and practically running to the supply closet. Anything to just be gone from his presence. It's so just... dreadful. Like in the moment of being near him, there's just an anvil weighing on your shoulders, and you can never imagine a good ending to any of your interactions.
Grabbing your cleaning cart, you prep for a long, long day. No doubt he's going to leave slime everywhere. Actively making messes for you to clean up.
Time to get your hands dirty.

Achoo. Guess who's sick again huh? It's been like a month that I've been coughing like crazy. I hope it'll disappear soon. Also, I can't keep this up. Once a week? FR? Nah we're going Wednesdays and Fridays. I'll see how I manage.
Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoyed!
