Tw: Angst, Violence, Broken bones... this chapter's pretty much all angst and stuff...and uh, kinda a major plot point here so...
—Dream's POV—
When he ripped open the portal, right into his brother's lair, he didn't expect to find him in such a... compromising position. There you were beneath him, eyes wide, mouth agape. It only caught Dream off guard for a fraction of the second before he remembered his training. He didn't too ever his schemes so long to be caught off by his brother harassing you... how often did this happen anyways?
Bow drawn, he leapt from the portal and flung a glowing blue arrow towards his brother, who was quick to dive off the twister mat to the side, and the arrow speared the mat right next to your head.
"What the hell!" Nightmare yelled, tentacles bursting from his back as Dream made his way towards you, moving fast. He couldn't worry about his brother right now. "DREAM!"
Thick, black, slimy appendages ripped you from the mat a blink before Dream could reach you, another pair aimed for Dream, and with his maddeningly high momentum, he couldn't turn in time to avoid them.
The familiar feeling of black slime encased him for a moment before he was flung against the wall, a growling Nightmare holding you behind him like a trophy.
"Did you think it'd be that easy?" Nightmare roared, a pissed, cocky grin splitting across his face as Dream readied his bow. "You want this worthless human? Come get it!" He taunted, waving you about like a ragdoll. Dream felt his insides twist just watching. He wanted so desperately to say something, shout a threat, or a command, but he was encouraged strongly not to talk to the enemy, as he'd likely fall into his brother's trap.
Dream shot more arrows, advancing on his brother with his mouth snapped shut. He just needed to get you away from here... far away.
"You're awfully sloppy today." Nightmare commented, grinning as he easily dodged around a mass of quick, sharp arrows. "Haven't even managed a scratch!" His smirk was back to prideful, but Dream could sense the concern in his brother better than anyone. The way he misstepped just barely, leaned an inch too far when dodging, how his eyes would widen slightly at any close-flying arrows.
Time to play dirty.
Darting forward, rather than shooting an arrow, Dream instead delivered a powerful blow into Nightmare's back, the tentacles immediately shuddering, and you were dropped, right into Dream's arms.
Retreat!
Nightmare roared, and as Dream opened a portal to escape through, his slimy adversary tagged along, bony hand latching onto his shoulder as the long journey begun.
No! This wasn't the plan!
"I'm going to RID the world of its shitty positivity once and for all!" Nightmare hissed, tugging at Dream's arms as they entered the void. A space between dimensions.
Risking a glance behind, Dream spotted the other side, just a couple hundred feet away! He'd make it! Just...Just get Nightmare off him!
Raising a leg, Dream violently kicked at Nightmare, landing a kick to his brother's midsection and sending him backwards, but didn't anticipate the amount of force he'd used, and with Nightmare's hand still on his arm like that...
It was at that moment that for once in a long time, both brothers shared a common goal.
Grab them!
Nightmare was first to reach you, a thick tentacle whipping out to snag you around the shoulders, roughhousing you into his arms, where he cradled you in his attempts to push back against the portal, return to the castle. Thing is, you can't make portals in the void.
