Cw: Brief Nakedness (Shower time except you have nothing to change into)
—Your POV—
It's in a rush that you wake up at an ungodly hour in the morning. Moonlight trickles softly through your window, but it's waning as the celestial source dips lower and lower in the sky. Your eyes pop open, fists curling into the covers as the false sensation of falling startles you awake.
In your head, violent themes play. Half awake, half asleep, you can still see the extreme rage on Nightmare's face. The subtle warmth of Dream's gloves digging into your skin. The pounding fear that typically accompanies a fall of lord knows how many feet.
You push yourself into a sitting position, arching your back for a much needed stretch before pulling yourself completely off of the bed. Your clothes, the nice ones you didn't bother to take off last night, cling to your skin. Smells like you might've been sweating throughout the night.
Peeling back layers of clammy clothing, you hop in the dingy shower your apartment provides and scrub down in some lavender-scented soap. After maybe twenty minutes, you're out of the shower, stark naked without really anything to change into.
All your clothes are... not very clean. And it'd be pretty redundant to put dirty clothes on a clean body, so you browse around the apartment and look for something clean.
It's just your luck that there are some old garments in your creaky wardrobe.
They look old. Well-used and loved, but fortunately not dirty. At first glance, they look a little big for you, but you decide that won't deter you from covering yourself and put on a hoodie and some jeans. Definitely too big. You're going to need a belt to keep the jeans on. You find one a little deeper in the wardrobe.
Well, clean and clothed, you move to pick up your stuff and be on your way. It's as soon as you grab your book and map that your stomach grumbles, and you're reminded of your human need to eat.
Right. You almost forgot you had to do that.
It's right about now that your luck seems to run dry, and you fruitlessly search the cupboards and find absolutely nothing to satisfy your hunger. Empty cabinets line your kitchen walls.
Looks like you're due for some shopping.
In a way, you suppose this could actually benefit you in the future. If you go into town, you can pick up some essentials for your journey. Food, water, some extra clothes, soap... whatever else you've seen in those survival tutorial videos.
Speaking of videos, you pat your pocket and feel your phone. It's been dead for a bit now. Your charger is still in Nightmare's castle though, so you're going to have to bear with it until your next lucky charge break.
Rustling up all your stuff, you head out into town. Book map, and a few other miscellaneous things come down the stairs and out the building with you. You leave your keys on the dresser... you won't be coming back.
The air around you is a little colder than yesterday. But you're a little better dressed for it than you were, so you briskly walk through cutting cold without much of an issue. Down the street and around the corner, you walk aimlessly until you come upon a trustworthy looking store. It might not have everything you need, but food and water are a definite purchase.
You browse for a few minutes looking over your options. You're going to need some long lasting stuff, but with good nutritional value. So, you get some canned beans and dried fruits. A couple granola bars come along too, and some crackers just in case.
Then, you find a small, homey section and pick out some tooth paste, a toothbrush, and some soap and a towel. Just household essentials so you don't get too dirty or anything. Some deodorant too, and a first aid kit you find further down the aisle.
