"I can explain sir" I quickly shouted while fixing my shirt and hair. "It's not what it looks like, really, we were just... Ahm..." "Gibbs Gibbs! Jo's got some mad dancing skills! No really you gotta see it!" Abby ran down at Gibbs yelling. They must have known each other for very long 'cause they seem more like friends than co-workers. Kinda cute. "we've got a case, Abs," Gibbs said, his eyes still looking at mine. I felt so uncomfortable. "Evidence? McGee usually brings it, so you came in for another reason." "I was looking for miss Eaton, but now that she's here she can help you sort out the evidence." Gibbs said upbraiding me with his look. I was so damn ashamed. And reliefed the moment he left. "He really doesn't like me." "It'll pass," Abby tried to convince me. "Hard to believe..." I mummled so she can't hear me. I turned and tried to fix my bun again, using a computer monitor as a mirror. "Hey Abby..." I heard someone say and turned. "Hi Tim. This is Johanna." she said pointing at me. "Johanna Zoe Eaton" we shook hands. "Timothy McGee" I heard him say and saw a little smile he tried to cover. He likes me. Well, at least someone. I never thought of myself as extremely handsome or attractive but I did notice some men got immediately attracted by me, even tho I'll never understand why. "I'm trying to get a job in here." "Really? Like... a new team member?" his smile wasn't there anymore, and he spoke in a strange tone. Maybe I missjudged, maybe I'm not welcome.
"Yeah." I answered in dissapointment. I got lost in his beautiful green eyes for a second. He looked away, probably because I stared. "Young navy officer Kevin Gilles, found his ID card and his wallet. Stabbed to death, murder weapon missing. You'll find out more from Ducky when he finishes the autopsy," he was talking to Abby. I'm lucky to have a case on my first day of work. Okay maybe not because I tehnically don't know if I got the job yet, but still. "Thanks McGee." Abby plugged in the memory card and I soon saw pictures of the victim on the screen. "he was stabbed in his bathroom, Ducky said about 4 to 5 hours ago. And Gibbs wants you to try to pull fingerprints off anything you can." I heard McGee saying, but I was still looking at the screen. A man, whose name I just heard was Kevin Gilles, was at the bathroom floor covered in blood, with open wounds everywhere. It has been only 10 months since I left FBI, but I got shivers on my arms from seeing a dead man. Murdered people shouldn't be anything new to me, but these 10 months did make a difference. "Can you help me a bit please?" "I'm coming." I helped Abby sort out the evidence. Then she stopped holding something in a little plastic bag. "You know what this is?" "Nope" "A tooth. And I am going to find a DNA sample on it." She took a bloody tooth outh of the bag. "Wonderful..." I mummled. As Abby was pulling off a DNA sample, I asked if I could use one of her computers and ran a little search about Gilles. I wasn't sure if I could do that but Abby didn't complain so why not. I didn't find anything unusual, but he sure was murdered for a reason, what would mean that I have to dig deeper. "Yes!" Abby shouted. "What? What is it?" I turned on my chair to see why didn't she answer me and saw her calling someone. "Gibbs! Get here now!" That kind of frightened me, I didn't wanna be caught in doing something I shouldn't, so I stopped searching. I just got up and walked towards Abby, but Gibbs already showed up at the door. "So, I was able to pull a fingerprint off the bathroom curtains. AFIS searched the whole navy database and found nothing. Then I ran a quick background check on his life and there it is- a match! It belongs to a woman ""-Carrie Marshall, his girlfriend."- I dropped in, not able to help myself. They both turned and I realised I wasn't supposed to do that. Gibbs' look expected an answer and I didn't know how to explain. "I, Uhm... Also did a little search... Out of curiousity... I mean, I'm here, so why shouldn't I help a bit?" I tried to crawl out expecting Gibbs to yell at me, but I got a little smile instead. Okay, good. He didn't yell. Abby then continued: "Then I found this baby," she said holding that bloody tooth- " that you brought to me as evidence, and was able to pull off a DNA sample. Where the hell did you find that tooth? I mean I know, in the bathroom but teeth are" "-Abby." "Okay, sorry. But this tooth definitely doesn't belong to our victim, Kevin Gilles. Bring me a correct DNA sample and I'll match it to this tooth," she finished. Then how the heck did that tooth end up there?! Stupid question, the answer is: we're going to find out. Gibbs immediately started leaving, signaling me to follow him, so I did. We entered the elevator and the door closed. It was dead silence and I was just afraid he'd ask me something I wouldn't want to answer. It's my first day and I've had enough uncomfortable situations with Gibbs, I don't want it to get any worse. Luckily, he didn't ask mw anything. It was a 15 seconds ride and it felt like 15 minutes. We ended in autopsy room, where I saw two men examining a body. "What do you got, Ducky?" Gibbs asked the older one. "Right on time Gibbs! I was expecting you. Oh, and this young lady is...? " "Johanna Zoe. Eaton. Nice to meet you." "Doctor Donald Mallard. But everyone calls me Ducky." The younger one soon showed up from behind Dr. Mallard, introduced himself smiling: "James Palmer. Jimmy. Dr. Mallard's assistant." "Hi." I smiled back. We came closer to the body and Dr.Mallard explained: "My predictions turned out to be true. Poor man fought hard before he died. He's been stabbed 27 times all over his body and soon bled to death. He bled out for about 3 minutes, even a good shaped marine's body as this one couldn't take it. But these bruises," he pointed on his neck and his elbow," as well as many more tell us that he was in a fight with someone much bigger and obviously tougher than himself." "That could possibly explain the tooth." And here I go, once again, I dropped in. No need for an explanation. "I'm just thinking out loud." "Good thinking." WOW. Gibbs has just commented me. I'm getting better.
We left autopsy and went up again. When we stepped out of the elevator, I saw that same orange room, only this time the desks weren't empty. I saw a woman sitting at the first desk on the left, an Israeli as I assumed, McGee and the other man from the elevator standing in front of the screen. "What do you got?" "I've checked his phone records and his credit cards, nothing unusual, except that he's made seven calls in a row to a phone number that belongs to" -" Carrie Marshall", this time it was Gibbs, interrupting McGee. "DiNozzo, pick her up. Eaton's coming with you." A man whose name is (as I just heard) DiNozzo turned so I could finally see his face. Green eyes and that smile... Charming. "Very special agent Anthony DiNozzo, call me Tony." And finally someone who seems to actually be happy to see me. "Johanna Zoe Eaton" "Are you two done?" I heard Gibbs say behind me. "Eaton? Take my gun, just in case you'll need it." Gibbs handed me his gun. "Okay, thanks." I reached into my bag and took out a 'gun holder' which I've kept in it just for situations like this. Then I grabbed my jacket and DiNozzo and I left the squad room.
