Florence Marie Baudelaire wished for many things. She wished to be born into a different family. She wished to be in a different house in Hogwarts. She wished to be alive in a different time period than the one she was in now. She wished and wished again constantly wanting change but as she grew up she knew it would never happen. So she stopped wishing.
Similarly, Remus John Lupin had also stopped wishing. His life could have been alright. It could have been good. It could have been perfect, but fate fucked up his cards. Now he had nothing to even wish for.
The thing about wishes though was that wishes, while they don't come true most of the time, bring hope. To stop wishing was to stop hoping and the both of them did just that. They would never hope for anything anymore. At least, they both assumed so until a boy saw a pair of bright yellow socks with tacky white stars on a girl's feet one day and hope was brought back once again in their bleak lives.
